Alright, the dreaded "high idle" has gotten the best of all of us. We've all tried to fix it. We've all f***ed with the biss screw after getting told not to. We've all been extremely PISSED when we cant get it to quit. Well I came across a solution to mine, and possibly your high idle.
I was in the process of changing my head gasket, which i blamed for my problems, when in fact it was a warped head. So, I go pick up my new head and while I'm ripping the intake off the old one, I find that the passage for the EGR valve is COMPLETELY blocked with carbon buildup. On the intake side and the head side. So after cleaning it up good, and putting it back on.....GREAT IDLE. 800-900 all the time now.
Wondering if it was the EGR passage that solved the high idle, we tried it on my friends 95 TSi with the same problem, and it worked.
Its a little bit of work, but if that high idle bugs you as much as it did me, its worth it.
Good luck!
Mike
