Car crapped on the pavement

So we were out tooling around in the snow, a couple friends & I - them with a Grand Cherokee & Audi Turbo Quattro Coupe, me with my Talon - and we're having a blast in the mall parking lots.

We're all having our fun when some smoke comes in my window, which was cracked open. I bring the car to a stop, thinking that maybe I'd smoked the tires when they'd dug through the snow - but when I get out of the car, I notice a long trail of brown stuff in the snow coming from the car - it looked like my car'd had Diarrhea all over the snow! :barf: It was oil, I knew immediately...

I thought maybe my drain plug had busted, but we didn't see it anywhere on the pavement - and when we looked under the hood we found an immense amount of oil on the front crossmember, and the filter looked somewhat charred (the label was half burnt off). I haven't gotten the opportunity to get underneath it, because of the snow, but I'm going to go out there tomorrow and take another look. I didn't want to chance driving it back without oil in the engine, and didn't add any more in fears that I'd just lose it again.

Any suggestions, ideas? Thanks.

By the way, I'm using a K&N Filter, and had been using Mobil 1 0W-20 oil.

I'd noticed that the oil pressure always runs high, usually to the higher mark on the stock dash gauge but not all the way into the high area - but I'd just chalked it up to be because of the balance shafts removal.

Take some oil with and a plastic dish pan that you can get under the car. Check the level, add a quart or 2, start the engine and look for oil leaks at the cooler and behind the turbo is the drain into the engine oil pan. The "J" tube is pretty weak and it's not uncommon for them to get a crack and dump a lot of oil until it runs out.

Don't drive it, tow it home for you don't want to know how much that repair bill will cost if you start spinning bearings. Emergency repairs can be to braze or solder the cracks, the other is to cut the damaged area out and replace with hose and clamps until you can get a replacement.

Cheers,
GTM
