I tightened the piss out of this belt and it still squeals like a pig for a few seconds when I first turn the heat or ac on. This is a brand new belt. Thanks....oh yeah, 99 gst

Check your harmonic balancer, it may have come unbonded.

How do I check this? Do I just look at it to see if it's cracked or what? How would this make the belt squeal if you don't mind me asking? Thanks

I have the same problem on my 97 GST. It never squeaked until the timing belt was replaced and then it squeaks only when cold. I checked the belt and it is really tight. Keep me updated.

-Thanks

My timing belt was also recently changed, problem started shortly afterwords. Only thing it wasn't really cold until recently so maybe it would have squealed then too.

I sure hope I'm not the bearer of bad news . . . but here's a trick you can do to see if it's the belt that's squeaking or . . . a bearing OMG

Start it up and while it's squeaking- take some windex and spray it on the belt in question. If the squeal goes away, it's probably a loose/dirty belt. If not . . . keep looking and cross your fingers.

Reason I say it might be a dirty belt, is mine recently started to squeal around the PS pump/alternator area. I took everything off and checked for ill wear on the pulleys and put it all back together nice and tight. STILL SQUEAKED!!!! So I took the windex and sprayed the PS belt and INSTANTLY the squeaking stopped.

Did this a few times more just to show friends and eventually the squeaking never came back :shhh:

Now mind you this was a little squeak. . . not some horrific squeal :D

Hope some of this has helped

**edit**
As for tension . . . they have the specs in the vfaq . . .
