Ok, we bought a 97 Eclipse RS yesterday, the car seemed to run fine but the check engine light was on. The guy said he would fix it, but the a**hole took out the bulb and sold us the car anyway. Anyways, a friend of mine hooked it up to a pocket logger and it threw up and nonfucntioning O2 sensor. Well, i replaced the O2 sensor and the car ran like hell, come to find out the spark plugs were Champion and gapped out to .70. Well after some new NGK's and properly gapped the car runs a hell of alot better, but now it seems to lag or jump whenever it is under sudden/hard acceleration. Anyone have an idea, i am running out of ideas.

can someone please help me ? i have a 96' gst..and i just replaced the turbo since it was smoking too much and the turbo was blown,anywho..the car idles at about 500-1000 rpms, idles rough, and my check engine light is on too..car has to be revved high in order to move, and if i floor the accelerator the car bogs, kicks forward and starts making a popping sound, can anyone help me ?? im desperate, and the idiots in my area dont know swat about DSMs..thanks.by the way..just replaced new plugs as well as wires,im running 93+ octane, and it has fresh synthetic oil..

How many miles does this 97 have on it ? The Eclipse transmissions are only good to about 85,000 and seem to fail totally at 110, 000 miles. Also after an O2 sensor change it takes some time for the car's computer to re-learn the parameters and adjust to your driving habits. I would drive it for a while and see if it settles out. You didn't mention if the check engine light cleared......

Sounds like your timing is off. One tooth on your timing belt will make a big difference in idling. The popping soung might be a backfire. What was blown on the turbo? were pieces missing? LOL im just curious... Seriously, it could just be dirty fuel injectors. I would start by checking the timing belt and then check if the injectors were dirty. Good Luck....

make sure your fuel filter isnt clogged to shit either, I got my fuel system and injectors cleans and it made a big diff in the cars idle and noticable preformance gain, I still have idle problems but not as bad.
turbo = louder to which makes me :D
