RPM Problems (tranny possibly)

My 2G just had a rebuilt tranny done now here is what happens only sometimes.

Normally which is about 80% of the time in 4th gear at 100 KM/H the car will cruise along at 2700 RPM and is peppy as hell and has lots of response and power its a damn fine car!

Sometimes it will only rev 2400 RPM at the same speed what could be casing this it makes the car sluggish and it sounds like its lugging almost like its having a hard time pulling the gear even you have to step on it constantly to get anywhere.

The car only does this sometimes I have no idea what could casuse the problems I am having if anyone can help me out on this I would really appreciate it.

Defiant is right about his transmission remarks.

When was the last time you checked or replaced your fuel filter? Install a fuel pressure gauge so you can monitor it when the condition repeats. Spark Plugs?

Ok changed my plug wires now the problem is gone and I picked up about 150 RPM at the same speed weird?

That's great, I fought this same problem for months on my _OWN_ van!!

Don't ask me why a spark plug wire should misbehave like this. Plenty of times with the plugs but not wires. Hot, cold, first start, random conditions, sometimes turning the key off while driving down the road and restart would fix it for a few miles.

I'm going to have to add this to my bag of knowledge though it's a tough one to diagnose for it just doesn't fit the norm. Of course would have been easy if you had a scope. I got to checking one day and pulled the wires off one at a time first from the coil end then the plug end, lo and behold no spark.
