low oil pressure

Ok, I'm a newbie to this forum, not new to cars or DSMs though. Ok, My friend went off to the Army and has a 91 TSI AWD, he told me I could take it out when I wanted. Well I have to now and when I first start it, the oil presure needle is within the 2 little marks, but then it falls. Anytime it idles too long it drops considerably, if you bring the RPMs up to about 2k for a few seconds, it comes back up, not within the marks, but it comes up some. Every once in a while I hear something in the turbo rub. Not the fins, maybe just the shaft. It rarley does it, and when it does, it's not even for one second. I am assuming this has something to do with the low oil pressure. Any suggestion?

For starters check the Oil level - then do your buddy a favor & get it changed.

There are 2 little notches in the dipstick, the oil is just oassed the second mark, and it looks pretty good on the dip stick.

This happened to me when my oil pressure sending unit went sour. That could be your problem.

really??? hum. he has a big leak right by his oil filter, is that where the sending unit is???

well i would say so...does it smoke any at all???????? just kinda curious cause if it does pull the small hose from the valve cover to the intake hose off and see if it has oily stuff in it..... then pull off the intake hose and see if it has oily stuff in it

ok, does not burn any oil what so ever. I'll still check those intake hoses though.
