Little background quick. Just got done with a bottom end rebuild due to *issues. Now, 500 miles later, everything was peachy, doing my oil change. Replaced the oil gasket also.. Start her up.. runs beautiful.. I'm letting it idle for a few mins to heat up to operating temp, and make sure nothing is leaking... I blip the throttle a little bit to build up some oil pressure to make sure that everthing is alright before i go take it for a test drive... The stock oil pressure gauge gets just under half way and i hear a "PHSSSST." (sound you hear when something under pressure depressurizes to atmopshere.) Well, I immediately shut the car off b/c the only 2 things that would be under pressure at the moment would be the cooling system, and the oil system.. Sure enough.. oil is all over the front of my engine.. Let me clarify. It isn't above the turbo, and it is not on the bottom of the oil pan or check plate for the flywheel...
But, it had enough pressure that it sprayed oil through my radiator, out the front of the bumper, and out the 2 side openings of the bumper..

(wow, that was long.) Now my question is: What are some likely things I can start checking tomorrow (I have to go to work. =( ).. This car has been down for almost 2months now, and I really need my car back and working.. Thanks in advance.

-Brad.

Just from giving it a glance over.. It looks like it is coming from around the oil filter area.. Can you reinsert or tighten the post.? Or do you have to buy a new... (what it called besides oil filter mount thing-a-mabob)

I've seen Quaker State and Fram oil filters that have burst at the crimp seam before. Check the filter and make sure it wasn't a defect.

the fram oil filter that was on my 91 when i bought it was a piece of junk, the seal on the filter somehow unseated itself from the filter(while driving at 2k under no boost at all) and blew oil all over the place under my hood

i pulled it off and the seal was kinda hanging off on one side of the filter, i put a mobil 1 filter on and did an oil change and it was fine

thing is i didnt hear any sound at all, my oil presure just dropped rapidly all of a sudden, so i get in the turn lane at the light around the corner from my house and it settles on zero oil pressure as soon as i go to neutral and i notice theres oil smoke comming from under my front end
i was about 30 seconds from my house so i just sorta limped it home drifting in neutral for the most part. my car leaked a puddle of nearly a quart of oil as soon as i got home and parked it(i put 2 fresh quarts in immieditaly after that just to be safe, they leaked right out, then i noticed it was comming from the filter), there was maybe a half a quart in the engine when i drained it, glad it didnt blow my engine

one thing is for sure, a fram filter will never go on any car i have

Cirus_93TSI, that is exactly what happened with my filter.. except it was a k&n oil filter.. The rubber seal was pushed off of the filter, and that is where the oil gushed from..

I think the only reason I heard it is b/c i was sitting in the driveway idling, and I barely blipped the throttle to build up some pressure.

Thanks for your responses guys.
