After many mods I decided to upgrade my turbo from the T25 to the T28 (TB03 Compressor) modded by Stone Racing Corp, which I'm told is almost the exact equivalent to the Mitsubishi TD05H-16G 7CM2 TURBO?.
However after at last finding a oil feed pipe at a cost of $160.00!! that fitted the turbo housing, we started it up for the first time tonight!! SADLY A MAJOR PROBLEM!!!
As soon as we pulled out to test run we noticed a nasty noise as the turbo spools up, it's hard to describe the noise but it's like a washing machine starting it's final spin!!! or like something rubbing a timing belt with the odd screach (like a slipping alt belt?) now and again.
Also there is no boost, I have an aftermarket gauge which shows it move quick to zero but then near impossible to reach the first notch (1psi!!) and the BOV is quite on dump.
Checked the all the lines etc, oil feed etc and can not see a problem?? the turbo wheel seems to still move freely after driving steady for 15 miles.
DOES ANYBODY have a clue on what the problem maybe? as I'm pulling my hair out now as the car as been off the road for four weeks with no sign of it ever going back, unless I fit the T25 back on? which was running fine when removed and holding 16-17psi no problem and producing 278bhp on a rolling road.
Any help would be most grateful, as I'm UK based and people here seem not to have a clue as the Eclipse is not really knowN here other than from the film!!!

Thanks guys

Shane

Hello again.

Does anybody know of any other good DSM forums that maybe able to help, im desperate now as the car is booked in for T28 removal saturday (which is going straight in the bin!!) and back with the good old stock T25, I knew I should have gone for the body kit instead of the Turbo upgrade!!

Thanks in advance

Hmmm, I am of no use. Try DSMtalk.com

Normally, I would say, you are leaking boost somewhere. Did your check engine light come on? Recheck all your clamps from the Turbo to IC to the Throttle body. Make sure that you dont have a Stripped clamp, because they may not hold intake pressure when you are boosting.

If you have an intake leak tester and air compressor, that would also come in handy

Also, make sure your Maf is plugged in.

Thanks for your help mate, but things have got worse.
After checking those things this evening we have found the turbo is leaking water and oil!!!
To think!! this is a so called BRAND NEW turbo that I paid $600.00 for!! I will not name names but will never buy from these Morons!! again I'm looking at a rebuild now at a cost of at least $350!!!
Suddenly I'm begining to hate my Eclipse and thinking of going back to a Mazda RX7 again

Well, I was thinking the T25 was being pushed to it's limit maybe as I read everywhere that it's only good for 250bhp and that it does not hold boost at high revs?
However it was doing 278 at the "rolling road shoot out" and boost only drops by one or two psi at high speed/revs, I now wonder if the T25 is in fact standard or not?? is there anyway I can tell just by looking and is there markings on the housing that confirms it's a T25.
I brought the Eclipse direct from Japan 6 months ago and thought it was standard other than the 5 Zigen cat back and turbo timer but had no history due to it being in Japanese.
One thing I do know is unlike other american cars I've owned (e.g Corvette, Mustang's and Trans-am GTA's) this one does not have all the emission control bit's like Charcoal canister, EGR Valve etc, etc however it is still left hand drive, Oh and it does not have a check engine light either? (see photo)
Anyway back to the T28 problem, I have now removed it and somehow the blades of the turbine have been rubbing the sides of the housing, which has been causing the noise and no boost I guess.
What would be the cause for this happening on a brand new turbo, we did drop it twice trying to fit it, would that have done something maybe?

Any input would be most grateful...
Many thanks

P.S Any interested european Eclipse owners can see mine on Satellite TV (Sky digital channel 139) producing the above BHP and winning against a Nissan 200SX on the 20th December 2003 at 21.30 (UK time) on "Rev bob is back" repeated Sunday afernoon and tuesday night

You dropped the blame turbo?
Thats definately not good for a turbo at all actually. Did you prep the turbo when you installed it? (circulate oil before starting the car)...

This shouldnt have been in engine performance, this should be in problem diag's actually. But thats my opinion.

You answered your own question.

I feel like a right prat now!! wrecking my own turbo!!! my mate dropped it twice when under car trying to connect oil feed pipe, only about 10 inches but a drop is a drop I guess.
I guess I've knocked a bearing or seal out of line or something as it was also leaking coolant and oil
Well thanks for your help guys, the T28 is being shipped to Turbo Technics in London for rebuild at a cost of approx $350.00!! this is getting an expensive turbo now!!
T25 GOING BACK ON FOR THE TIME BEING:cry:

Good luck man. Have your friend pay 1/2 for being an idiot.

i also wonder if that turbo you already have in it is a t28 or not. All t25's drop boost towards topend and it is near impossible to tell the difference of the two from just looking at it. Once you get the turbo on, let us kno if you feel a difference or not: spoolup, topend, etc.
