Just got a quick question. I know on a Starion that you can't use the stock head bolts but one time. After that, they stretch out and won't torque down right. Is this true for 4G63's?

I am just trying to figure out what all I need to buy before I pull the head off of my car. I just found out that the motor that I just bought has a cracked head.

Any help will be appreciated

My 91 AWD Manual doesn't say anything about the Head Bolts not being re-usable - I would highly reccommend getting a 1/2 inch drive 10 MM Allen IMPACT Socket - a good 1/2 inch extension & an electric 1/2 inch Impact would be very-very nice - even if you rent it - There's a long list of seals, hoses, gaskets, water pump, belts, etc that you would be crazy not to change out while you are in there - particularly if all that is original & leaking like mine was - not to mention canning the water/ oil cooler & rear balance shaft - Here's my parts list - about $2.5K with upgrades & overkill - hopefully yours is in way better shape than mine - Good Luck - & also - about where in S.C. are you?

If you are using oversize valves or larger camshafts this can be even more of a problem. We use this gasket on all of our motors because of it's superior sealing - 95$ from turbotrix. With a 4g motor, they are not neccesarily (sp) stretch to tq, when you pull the bolts out, lay the threads on a metal straight edge, if all threads touch, they are good, if not, they have infact stretched which can happen. Since you have it off though, I would go ahead and put ARP studs in it, they are no very expensive, less than 100 bucks and you don't have to worry about it anymore.

Alright, that is good to hear. I am kind of working on a budget (in other words I don't have any money :D ) I am going to pull the head off today and see what is going on. I have a motor that was locked up right after putting a new head on it about two months ago. That is the head that I am going to use so I am almost certain that all of the gaskets in it are still good.

Oh, and I'm located in Columbia so I am not that far from you Buck.
