2G Radiator fans always on

Hi guys,

I just finished putting my car ('95 GSX) back together after a transmission swap. I finally get the bugger started, and immediately notice that the radiator fans are on. They stay on, and dont shut off. The coolant guage works - it goes up as the car warms, and rests a little below half way. The ambient temp here is like 30 degrees.

I figure that I probably pulled a wire from its connector or something, but I can't see any loose wires. What sensor could I have disconnected/could be defective to cause this?

Fixed. The douche who owned the car before me left the engine wiring harness a rat's nest of electrical tape and poorly spliced wires. An hour of hunting, and 5 minutes of soldering took care of it.

I've always wondered whether you could wire up one fan to run on low speed until the fan thermoswitch tells it to quit - regardless of whether the ignition was on or not - kinda like a honda (I know - I know) - & not run the Battery down on a hot day...

Today's project update... Well if you remove the female spade lug that has the Blue wire with Black stripe from the connector frame under the Radiator Fan Relay - then add a wire to that lug with a 20 Amp fuse - I used an aftermarket mini-fuse (same as stock) block with 14 gauge wire & go straight to the Battery terminal with the other end of that wire. Replace the lug into the connector frame of course - The Radiator fan will then run whenever the Coolant Temperature Switch at the bottom of the radiator closes (on 185F - off 172F) - REGARDLESS of whether the Ignition is on or not. Slight safety hazard as it will cycle a few times after you cut the car off if it's warm outside - but there is a sticker telling you it comes on automatically! This will be a bigger deal in the Summertime here & anywhere South of S.C. IMO. I have the small hole in my Thermostat so the Coolant can flow via convection till it cools.

Update to the update - In addition to the Radiator fan coming on when the car is off & the Temp Switch says the coolant temps are above 185 (my desired "Mod") - IF you have the AC button in BOTH FANS continue to run when you cut the car off & NEVER STOP - unless you let the AC button out. That "feature" could come in handy - but it could run a Battery down too... I told you guys I'm no electrician!

That set up would be a little harder on the Alternator & Fans & you are missing the Temperature spike immediately after you cut the motor OFF (the highest Temp point!) - My radiator (passenger side) fan cycles per the Coolant Temp Switch whether the engine is on or off

(like a freaking honda - I know - I know..)
