I have a 91 turbo talon FWD. After driving my car for a good while, the idle starts to get bad. For example when I'm about to stop and I push the clutch, the RPMs will drop low to about 300 RPMs and come back up to 1000 RPMs. But the car sounds like it wants to shut off when it drops to 300 RPMs. And if I was to park it after driving it for a while for a couple of minutes and then I start it up again, the first time I stop at a sign or even reverse a bit the car will shut and I would have to restart it. This happens a lot. Can anyone please help me?
 
Check where the air cleaner hose goes into the throttle body... loko at the butterfly and take a rag with wd 40 and clean it off that could be the problem
 
i had the same problem with my 90 GSX..it turned out to be the idle speed controller and idle air controller...you may want to check those out too

The butterfly valve is located where the intake meets the manifold, simply pull the intake off the manifold and look inside and u will see a metal flap(you can swing it around and check the backside), take a can of carbon cleaner you can find at any auto store and if there a black residue(carbon) spray it with the carbon cleaner and wipe it off til its clean... i have a 96 nt with the same problem and that fixed it!:talon:
 
I just changed my Mass Air flow and the stallin stopped. I was asking the guy that usually works on my car about the idling jumping up and down from 1000 rpms to 500 rpms and he said its because the mass air flow is modified. Can this really be so?

DSM_lizard: No my check engine light doesn't come on
