My car was running fine then I tried to start it up and it went haywire. The starter would not even turn. Everything was dead except that my EGT gauge starts jumping around and I hear a fast clicking when I turn the ignition. Eventually everything goes dim after trying for a few minutes and it dies.

Could this be the ecu? I have searched and some people have had similar problems because the capacitor went bad but that was with the 1G's. I have a 98.

Help Please!

I am geussing it's your starter. It went bad and you need to get it replaced. Try roll starting your car. If it starts there obviously isn't anything wrong with the ecu. Another age old trick is to have someone tap on the starting with some sort of tool. pliers, ratchet, wrench whatever while you or your friend holds the key in the start position. On our cars this is almost impossible to tap on it because the start is on the back side of where the motor meets the tranny on top of the tranny. I have replaced a starter once on a friends gst and it was a pain. one way to gain access from the top is to remove the battery. then run jumper cables from the bat up to the regular cables. try tapping the starter while your friend trys to start. sometimes with works sometimes it doesn't I have seen it work on a few different cars but only for a limited time then the starter goes completely out. as far as your egt gauge going up and down that could be due to electrical surges from the battery as you are trying to start it. it's like when your radio turns off when you start your car then comes back on cause the starter draws all the power from the cars electrical system. also the battery will die after you try starting it over and over again with no luck! so make sure the battery is fully charged or use a friends battery from a different car to make sure.

Clean your battery terminals, I was having the same problem until I cleaned those damn terminals. Mine now starts like it had 20 miles on it :thumb:

I had a similar starting problem once. As it turned out, it was simply a bad wingnut on the positive battery terminal. It would come lose just about a turn and that was enough to stop it from starting. So checking the battery terminals and their connections is important.

could there be anything else. i can't push start my car cause of awd, i just bought a new starter and battery and i try to start it, and doesn't want to turn over, after it stops clicking noise by starter and lights are dim. i dunno what the noise could be. as i said i just put a new starter in
