engine grinds

i have a probem...........sometimes when i go to crank my car it will grind like im over turning the key but really im not but after about two key turns then the car cranks up and is fine if you keep driving....but if you let it sit for awhile it'll do it again.....whats wrong.....is it my starter....any help will be appreciated......

Definitely sounds like the starter is fixing to go. My buddies sounded like that for about a month then one morning, nothing except clicks. It was like a screeching/grinding noise for the first 2 tries and it only got worse until nothing.

u know it depends, thats definitely your starter, for sure, but the starter inmy VR4 has been grinding like that for about 6 months, and i havent changed it, and car still starts fine...and YES that noise is my starter cause ive had that happen plenty of times before and had to replace them...i just havent gotten around to it...but this topic just reminded me i need to get around to it...thanks!
