Car died in the water the other night. Have questions..

I'll make it short.

Rained very hard, very deep puddles. Car died in the water and it wouldnt start back up. Got car towed home, removed CAI to see if water may have went up. Only small signs of moisture in there. Checked starter, car tended to turn over but had a bad clanking sound. Almost like it was coming from the pully area. Friends father said possibly timing belt snapped. He said it definatly isnt hydrolock, cause the engine wouldnt turn over at all.

Any suggestions??
 
I'd say, pull the cover and check to see if the timing belt is still intact. If its not that then I can only suggest that you got water in your intake. You did mention you found some moisture in there. Maybe its moisture left over from what the motor didn't suck up.

i did the exact same thing in my camaro. left the water in the engine for 8 days ahahah. what i did was take out spark plugs and try and turn over. a ton of water shot out.. then put spark plugs in and its cracked over.. jacked up the car and water came out of the exhaust for over 20 mins... car ran fine after and easy way to hollow out my cat
 
If you didn't get deep to actually submerge the intake, you're probably safe from hydrolock- it takes quite a load of water to do this to an engine. Being able to crank it with the starter also discounts the liklihood of hydrolock. If you got deep enough to flood the timing belt case, jumped timing is suspected. If the belt seems intact, do a compresion test (get all the water out of the plug wells before pulling them), and if it's okay, dry everything off with compressed air and WD-40 and hope the electrical fault you've brought on will dry out harmlessly.
 
This same thing happened to my '91 Talon last night, the street was flooded and the car died .... I got it out of the water and it ran for a few minutes .... seemed like some of the plugs weren't firing..... after drying it off for a bit it almost seemed like it was getting better and then I heard a loud "very bad" sounding noise from the engine bay and the car died...

I went back this morning to find that the timing belt is extremely loose and it appears to be leaking some oil:thumbdown I have no idea yet of what this is going to cost me.... anyone? hehe

It almost looks like the belt got torn up and stuck too... this is the front of the engine, there is a chunk of what appears to be belt wedged between the pulley and timing case.

That's what I'm figuring ... amongst more stuff that could go wrong.... Right now I'm going to try to get another car as a daily driver if possible and keep the talon still... It would be a shame to get rid of it now.... too much fun ... aside from me being angry when it's broken:talon:
 
Looks to me like you broke the frount B/S belt. It in turn took out the timming belt , so at best belt tensioner waterpump belt pullies . At worst head , head gasket ect ect ect . So arround 450 to 1500. :talon:
