Bad ECU? Help - No Spark

I just bought a 92 Laser AWD Turbo a few days ago, was told the fuel pump was bad. Replaced the fuel pump with a BBK 255lph pump.

When trying to start the car, it cranks and cranks but is not catching. The pump however only pumps when we crank it, it does not come on when we turn the ignition to the on position.

We checked for spark, and got none while trying to crank the car.

I pulled the ecu after that, and it looks like two of more of the caps has leaked all over the place, looks similar to the pics in this thread:

My question is, would the problems I experienced, with the fuel pump still pumping gas while I crank, etc. But no spark and everything be from the ECU?

I have a MD166262 ECU currrently, which is does not have a EPROM.

Since my ECU is bad now anyways, where can I find one and what can I expect to pay? I guess since I am replacing it, I should find one with an EPROM now as well? What model ECU's with EPROM's will work in my car?

Appreciate all the help, just trying to get this car on the road.

Anyone have any idea if my assumptions are correct, and info about the ECU with EPROM?

Looking to knock this out this weekend.

I am in Maryland, if anyone knows anywhere local I can source parts.

I just went throught the same thing. Yes, fuel pump still works without spark. You can still clean up the board and replace the caps if the board is not damaged too badly, I was told. I try that and wasted 3 days. Check out Dsmtraders.com, I got one from there for $100 , most of them ranged from 120 - 160. Junck yards in NJ area wanted at least $200. Good luck.

Is there any board that I can use on my 92 with EPROM? If so, which ECU's will work with my 92? I just want to make sure I get the right one. But I would prefer a EPROM'd board.

91 to 94 ECUs will work on your car. (not 90) just ask them to open it and make sure it's eprom.
