I spent three days building a 6 bolt long block from the bottom up. The motor is currently in the car and runs. I have two issues. My first issue is an oil leak I am having from the turbo return to the oil pan. Who makes a good return line that has good quality hose and ends that go to the turbo and the oil pan? My oil pan is a Moroso oil pan and the return design is not all that good at the pan. The turbo is an IHI 16G Killer.

My second issue is also another oil leak. I can start the car and run it for a few minutes and notice a nice amount of oil accumulating on the front cross member toward the firewall of the car. I thought that maybe the front seal was not holding so I took the top timing belt cover off to see if the timing belt had oil on it since its close to the front seal. No oil.....My next guess would be a bad oil pan gasket. I had to pull the pan off to install the motor since it sticks out to much for the motor install. Here is how I am guessing how its the pan. While the motor was on the stand I primed the oil pump with a air drill and got 60 PSI and no oil leaks from any of the seals, however the crank was not turning so that is something else to throw in. I can't imagine a bad oil pan gasket causing that kind of oil spray. Any thoughts???

Thanks.

Did you use an actual oil pan gasket? Or did you do use the Mitsubishi oil pan gasket snot?

I actually like the Mitsubishi stuff because it's so damn strong. Better than your standard RTV.

From what it sounds about your leak, it doesn't sound like it's front seal, as the crossmember is more under the turbo/turbo feed line for oil. I'm not personally familiar with the 16G killer, but I'd check the oil feed line, the return line at the top, the valvecover gasket and oil cap gasket (THESE DO GO BAD AND WILL SPRAY OIL EVERYWHERE), then finally, look around the headgasket.

How much oil IS it spitting out?

call slowboy racing they usually have everything you need ,,, they should have the oil line at a reasonable price... and as your gasket goes ... if you pull the oil pan , when you put the new gasket on .. only put rtv on one side of the gasket and then hand tighten to ensure you dont brake any of those rusty old bolts

Most of the small drips are associated with the shitty bolt on design of the Moroso oil pan. The major oil leak was coming from me forgetting to put the bolt back in where you check for your balance shafts. How crazy is that? I could fell warm air blowing out of the rear of the block and found it when I simply put my hand over the block and bingo. I also replaced the oil return line with an all braided line and AN fittings and new gaskets. The small drips still remain its just a matter of knock each one out on the oil pan bolts. No rusty bolts here everything is brand new so thats one nice thing about this build.

Now all I have to do is tune it which will prob. come in the spring when I can get some dyno time in before the race season begins. I only use the car for track events and an occasional drive around town.
