I'm stumped as to what is going on with my damn car, here's the story:
Last week I went to start my car and when I turned the key it made that clicking noise from the starter so I figured the battery was dead so I jumped the car and it started right up and I proceeded to drive it. After driving for 15 minutes it died because of a tuning issue and I was unable to start it again so I had to push start it and then I drove it home. I figured it was the battery so tonight I bought a new battery and when I went to start the car it made the clicking from the starter again. I figured that it had to be the starter then because I had a new battery. So I push started it and it started so I started driving it and after about 30 minutes I was driving in a straight line at 40 mph and everything just cut out, and I mean everything(no lights, car died, nothing). I pulled off the road and figured maybe the alternator was bad and the battery drained, but it was weird because the car was running fine and nothing was dimming right before it shut off. I tried to jump it but I every time I even opened the door and the dome light turned on then everything would go off right away. These are my guesses: Bad battery, bad alternator, bad starter, bad ground. Let me know what your opinions are and what I should check/test. Please help me diagnose this. Thanks

Check the actual battery connectors. Mine went from running fine to nothing on at all. I thought my wife had cursed it again.(she has a way with cars:rolleyes: ) But it turned out my battery connection were loose. They were tightened down all the way and seemed tight, but as soon as I bumped it, it came loose. I eneded up squeezing the connector to make it more of an oval shape until I can get new ones.

check the fusible link under the hood in the fuse box that let's the alternator power the battery and car.. Easy 30 sec check and costs $3 to replace... Otherwise, your car will run off your battery, right until the battery drains till about 7.5 volts.. then it doesn't work.. Same thing as you described above, and it was the fusible link.. Not saying it is your problem, but same signs/symptoms that I had.

Well it wasn't the fusible link. The is also still fully charged so it can't be the battery. The headlights and everything now are working for some reason but they kind of flicker on and off. It still clicks when I try to start it like it doesn't have enough power. I think it must be the ground cables. Does anyone know how to test them? Or any other ideas?
