Just did Compression test...got a few questions

Well I just picked up this 92TSI AWD.

The car is immaculate...AWD, ABS, full power, nice color etc.

Compression was

4-170
3-160
2-148
1-135

Now, I know the 135 is low but how much of an effect on perfromace will this cause...can I still run the car hard in this condition or does it need a rebuild?

Would some thicker oil (20w-50) help out at all?


It's piston rings by the way.as I dripped some oil in there and #2 & #1 went up to 180

Sorry bro it sounds like that motor is beat. Sounds like its due for a rebuild.

Ya..its rough..but how bad is it? Is it still okay to mod..Im rebuilding in the spring..it should hol till then....the motor DOES have 213,000 Miles though!

My compression is 145,145,135,135 and has been that way for about a year, and my car still runs fine, with the exception of a little bit of power loss that is noticeable. I still however give her a hard run here and there but has been reliable for a little over a year, hope that helps.

The cylinders should all be within 10% of each other. Sounds like a rebuild is in order.
