Trouble starting

Here it goes , have a 1990 talon turbo awd tsi . No mods , yet . When attempting to start car , it cranks , but wont start . When this happens , hot or cold , the turbo gauge reads full boost . It stutters , and i can hear alot of fast clicking from under the dash (ecu) . I do know timing is fine , my clutch however is almost completely shot . Any ideas on this ? I have also taken car do dealership to have diagnostics test done . They kept it over night and found nothing . No codes or errors . car has 125k miles . Thanks

you may have a bad ecu it its clicking a lot. take it out and look at the caps inside.

ok clutch is done . had caps replaced in ecu . still when i turn the key to start position the boost gauge reads full boost . when this happens the car idles rough and stalls out . other times when i start the car and boost shows normal , it runs fine . what controls the boost gauge ? does it also control throttle position?

your boost def. shouldnt be reading full because when u start a car its only spinning the motor at about 500 to 1000 RPM. So u mite have at malf. in the gauge or sumthin is really messed up with that...check and see if there is any exaust coming out....what color....also test to see if ur car is flooded....take the spark plugs out and see how soaked they are....if thats they case crank the car without the spark plugs in it...that would let any gas out thats been cought up in there. also check to see if the throttle is stuck open cuz if that is then close the flap....let me know what happens

That is not the problem . It shows full boost when key is in start position . Before car is running . This is when I know if car will or wont stay running . I need to know what to look for that might cause the boost gauge to show max level ? When I turn key and boost gauge stays at a normal level car is runs fine .

It's your ecu i've had 4 of these cars and i had to have 2 rebuilt because they done the same thing ! i get auto-ecm.com to build mine they charge $250.00

Just replaced the caps in it . What else is there?

just replacing the caps doesnt always help, your ecu may have fried othe things in it. I suggest replacing the whole ecu 50/50 chance i say go for it man
