I am posting for a friend of mine. He isworknig on a 1g that just came into his shop and was told that it wasnt running right and wouldnt idle. The car was towed here. He tried installing a 2g MAF before coming in. So at the shop they re-wired the maf and installed a intake pipe. The car will not idle at all. It will turn over but then dies and can't idle or stay on unless hitting thegas. Any idea of what it could be or how to help??? Also, I wanted to ask there is a hose that used to go into the intake pipe, a small one that we are unsure where it goes. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

THanks so much for anything!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also forgot to mention that the car is running rich as hell and it is completely fouling up the plugs

Several things to consider:

2G MAS + stock injectors + no SAFC = way too lean.

I'm not 100% clear if car stopped idling AFTER 2G MAF install or did it have problem before ?

Which vacuum hose are you refering to? On the snorkel ? the UICP ? LICP ?

The line off the J-pipe (turbo outlet) goes to boost control solenoid, and is usually unused if MBC is installed. It should be plugged up though.

One of the common 'misses' when figuring out idle problem (provided 2G MAS was installed correctly) is idle switch wire. Also plugs for ISC and other connections to TB may be unplugged.

If nothing was touched, then look for loose clamps/pipes. I doubt small vac. line would completely kill idle. Connect the logger and see what you get for air readings.

What ? You shop doesn't have a logger ? Best investment you'll ever make if working on 1Gs.

Good luck.

Is the maft that was put on new or used ? If it was used it could be bad , from there I would say it is wired incorrectly and quite possably he may have messed up the ecm..:talon:

So the kid installed it first by himself and then said that the car wouldnt run that is why he brought it to the shop. he said that it was running way too rich. So you think it prolly could be that he fried the computer??? If so, what do you think could be next? Gonna try my 2g MAF tomorrow to see if that is the problem. If not, guess this kid fried the hell outta his car huh???

I'd trace his splicing first. Most likely he screwed up on the MAS wiring.
