I am getting this grinding/sqeaking noise coming from the right side of the engine.....It sounds like this throughout all rpm.........

That's okay. Cars usually have a crank pulley which has a solid hub, then a vulcanized rubber strip, and finally a heavy outer rim which has the belt grooves on it. The rubber's a thin bit, and if you don't stop to look for it, you'd not likely see it. It's to reduce "harmonic" imbalances that occur as a crankshaft goes through different speeds, and gains and loses some "windup" where it actually tries to twist itself out of shape. Over time, and rather a lot in these forums this summer, the rubber fails. On DSMs, you can lose a belt, which can eat a timing belt, which is a lot like sitting on a barbecue. Naked. With important bits dangling through the grille directly onto the hot coals.Originally posted by noz
