I am getting this grinding/sqeaking noise coming from the right side of the engine.....It sounds like this throughout all rpm.........
Please help!!!!

this is coming from the driver side.......i don't know anything about mitsubishi.....my first......

I havn't tried it with a/c on....but its a constant squealing noise........and when your in higher rpms you can still hear it unless you are accelerating fast.....

My first guess is a belt is loose. Second is to check the crankshaft pulley... the dampener material can break and cause the pulley to seperate, and thus because loose, hit the timing belt cover, etc. Also, could be some plastic grinding somewhere, maybe the timing belt, inner fender well cover. Then that leaves all the pulleys (water pump, a/c compressor, power steering), but you should be able to isolate the location by simply sticking your head in the engine bay if it's one of those.

IF your not positive its on the drivers side, make sure your shifter doesnt move in 3rd or 5th, could be some bolts comin loose in the tranny. It happens.

I just sprayed some lubricant on the belts and now it doesn't squeak/metal grinding anymore....just only sometimes for a few seconds when you start up the car....
so this means i probably got some dusty belt because it hasn't been drivin for a while???

yah i thought the same thing....alternator.....because my dad's mazta was making almost the same noise when it's alternater went out.......
so guess its not the alternator right? because after I sprayed some lubricant on the belt it stoped.

why do i need a harmonic balancer? i don't know what it is......."newbie"

welps i started up my car earlier........and the noise came back..........arggg...............wtf?

I had a similar noise coming from my water pump. It took a few weeks before it actually had to be replaced.

My guess is one of your belts is loose (alt) or your crankshaft pulley (hamonic balancer) is coming apart. Look down at your cranksfaft pulley and see if it wobbles when running. Also check your alt belt for proper tension. On 1G turbo's, there are two bolts you need to adjust to keep the tension on the alternator belt (not sure about 2G's)

That's okay. Cars usually have a crank pulley which has a solid hub, then a vulcanized rubber strip, and finally a heavy outer rim which has the belt grooves on it. The rubber's a thin bit, and if you don't stop to look for it, you'd not likely see it. It's to reduce "harmonic" imbalances that occur as a crankshaft goes through different speeds, and gains and loses some "windup" where it actually tries to twist itself out of shape. Over time, and rather a lot in these forums this summer, the rubber fails. On DSMs, you can lose a belt, which can eat a timing belt, which is a lot like sitting on a barbecue. Naked. With important bits dangling through the grille directly onto the hot coals.
