Well I made a plate for the EGR out of aluminum that I borrowed from work. We have lots of scraps laying around from different tests. Anyway last time I drove the car, yesterday, I barely made it up a "little" hill in my neighborhood. Now with the plate on, I went up the same hill without it misfiring. I drove a little ways on the road going into our neighborhood and it seems very good. When I got back I left it in park for a minute and the rpms were gittering 800 or so up to 1100, or thereabouts. I'm not sure if I just need to drive it some more or what. So I just wanted to know if anyone who put on a block off plate to their EGR had similar results?

I'll try driving some more tomorrow and see how it does. Hopefully its just right now that it runs bad in park and that it just needs some time to get back to normal. Thx for your help my_gst95, if you see this.

I just cut a piece of metal for my blockoff plate. I used some copper rtv to seal it, not too thick but a generous amount, and I still used the stock gasket for the the egr on it (the metal one).

You can also feel around the plate, while the car is running, for any leaks.

Hope this helps.

I'm going to try and seal it better, if its leaking. Have to let it cool down for a little while. I really don't like the idea of blocking off pieces of the engine. Can't I just buy another EGR?

-The purpose to block off the EGR is so the exhaust gas can't go back up throught the intake again causing carbon build up at the throttle body. if you're getting CEL, try punch some holes on the block off plate to let the exhaust gas enter the EGR valve so the sensor in there can pick up the signal yet the exhaust gas can't go up the intake path.

Well either the plate isn't sealing enough or theres something else wrong with my car cause after it gets warmed up I can barely go 30mph. I only get the 0300 code which is EGR malfunction. So I think I'll just take it to the mitsu dealer cause this car is beyond me.
