Today I was doing this to my car. http://www.tgilmore.com/talon/catchcan.html

And I started my car up after words and I heard the same usual putting sound I usually do when its cold since ive had the car 2 weeks or so. But this time I found the cause of the sound, hot air puffs out from the top left side of the exhaust manifold heat shield area, So im assuming the Exhaust manifold, this is also probobly the reason when I boost hard instead of one nice Wooooosh its more like wosh sh sh sh sh sh sh sh. anyone else had this problem before?

I have a turbo back exhaust I was going to install Should I wait until I fix this leak? thanks for your ideas you guys always come through.

You're describing the same problem I was having. I went investigating and as soon as I took the heat shield off the top of the exhaust manifold there was my problem. A nice 2" and 4" crack.

If thats what it is, you can get a stock exhaust manifold from the dealer for about $130 which is about the same at most part stores. You'll also need a bunch of gaskets (I'll let you figure out that one).

And good luck on not breaking any studs. I had 2 snap on me... grrrrr

Edit: That hot air is more than likely the exhaust that should be pushing your turbo

Yea exactly, we had the heat shields off yesterday and to my suprise im actually MISSING the bolt that bolts the far left of the exhaust manifold to the engine. it may be broken it may be missing but who ever worked on this car before we got it, either forgot it or is just an idiot. and needless to say there was also 2 broken bolts in the manifold that were to hold the heat shield on. AND on top of that, 1 more bolt that is completely stripped of all its threads and just sitting in its slot. Withthat said my manifold is in worse shape than I had thought. It will be a while till i have time to rip off my exhaust manifold and see if its just the missing bolt causing the leak, or exhaust gasket or whatever it may be. but I didnt see any cracks so far. thank god =)

1g Exhaust manifolds are pretty much guaranteed to crack. If you go waste 150 on a new one, it will crack again. For $150 you can get a ported 2nd gen turbo exh. manifold, which flow much better and dont crack. Happy stud breaking, good luck.

If you want new stronger studs, FFWD connection sells replacements that wont break. Tell Darren that Keaka sent you :thumb:

Im running a 2g now, my name tricks everyone sorry about that. i updated profile to show the 2g as my car. So it IS a 2g manifold but it doesnt seem to be cracked anywhere just a missing bold and possible a bad gasket.
