My 1991 GSX is smoking. I suspect it to be bad valve seals but now I am not sure. It smokes like a chimney. It is mostly blue smoke but sometimes looks white. It smells like burning oil. After the car warms up, meaning I have to let it idle for at least 5-10 minutes and then drive it for about a mile...it seems to stop smoking. Is this still a sign of bad valves or something more serious?? It does drive good and idles nearly perfectly once it is warm. I also know the valve cover gasket is leaking but I suspect something else on the turbo side of the engine is leaking oil as well. The exhause portion of the turbo is full of oil after the car sits over night...there is oil on the down pipe and some other parts in that area. Is there another place oil can be leaking from in that area? I really dont think it is the piston rings causing it to smoke since the engine pulls very hard for being all stock. The only things I have done to it are removing the BCS restrictor and the "snorkle" thing just being the mass air unit. It still has a regular air filter and stock (non gutted) exhaust. The car did sit for a year before I purchased it and it has 116k miles.

Secondly, it is hard to start it after it has been sitting for more than 3-4 hours. It will take about 4-5 tries to get it going. I think this may be oil on the plugs but I am not sure.

Last question is can the stock 16" rims hold 215-50 16's all the way around or will I have clearance problems? The tires that on now are nearly bald and anything over 50mph makes the whole car vibrate terribly. Thanks for the help I really appreciate it. I have plans on getting this car into the 12's with the stock turbo.

One more thing!!! Sorry...does anyone know the part number for the k&n filter that clamps right up to the stock upper 1G Mass lid? Thanks again.

To solve oil problem can only be couple things. Turbo seals; Valve seals;Valve guides;Piston rings. Starting problems check oil in sparks plugs then go from there. Tire wise you might a have a problem with the width.

also look for signs of the turbo blowing oil if you suspect that is could be blow by. maybe check intercooler pipes.
