i just bought this car, it was running mint when i brought it to the mechanic but had a slight crack in the exhaust manifold. he did some misc work, tune up and other stuff. he did some "free" mods when he was in there (it was bone stock). its now idling BAD. 550- 1200rpm very irratic and lumpy. the manifold is cracked in 2 BIG places and one stud is snapped, so its leaking bad. could this be just because of the leak? did he mess up the MAF when he took out the mesh? is there an IAC sensor? i ordered an EVO exhaust manifold, so that will be taken care of in a couple days. thanks guys (94 TSi)

- So Moe and his two brothers work on your car. why did you accept the car when it run worst then when you hand him the key? Take the car back.

it was acutally one of my good friends who has a mid 12 sec 91 that has done more work on DSMs in the past year between his and our friends then i could ever think of. hes taking it back next week to swap the manifold and tune it, i just wanted an idea to see if i could swap a part or two or a couple sensors so it wasnt as annoying till when i take it back to him. im not an idiot, i dont take my cars to people who are clueless, i am not 16 years old, ignorant or a newbie when it comes to vehicles, so feel free to take the sarcasm somewhere else as i am not havin a good night. :thumb:

-Your good friend shouldn't remove the 'mesh' in the MAF in your bone stock car, I hope you/he didn't throw that mesh away.

ok, seeing that i have read in 3 different DSM board that removal of the honeycomb is a good idea could you tell me why he shouldnt have? and it was bone stock, now its pretty close, just a boost controller, gauges and K&N.

we figured that they run so rich and i wasnt runnin any other mods that the stock pocm would be able to control it. im now going to go order some fuel parts

-If you're into hacking the MAF, check this out.

Ahem, the car didn't run right when it came in. No I didn't remove both honeycombs, just the lower. And I did exactly the same thing on my stock MAF and had no idle issues, just improved acceleration. Coincidence? Maybe, but I was following established mod paths. I am however open to learning new things so if that's the case then so be it, but I've never seen the lower honeycomb removal cause an idle to be this erratic. The car sat for almost two years so we hoped driving it some would help, apparently we were wrong. Next stop in a logging we will go.... :thumb:

And hey Bry, thanks for the defense. We'll clear it up on the next stop in

hopefully the logger will find it, it seems like its getting worse. i dunno what happened between the time it went from jesse's house to the shop, it was seriously running close to mint when i checked it out. the engine didnt vibrate at all really, i wasnt blamin you or anything, just wondering if the maf was that sensative or if there was something we missed. damn i cant wait till i can get the money for you to do the turbos on the RT so i can hear the spool on that LOL, its sooo addictive :thumb:

No offense taken from you :thumb: And hey, I don't claim to know everything so who knows, the honeycomb could be the cause. I'll see if I can dig it out and we'll try tossing it back in if all else fails. Or we can try my old MAF and we'll see what happens...

P.S. I soo agree about the sound being addictive OMG
