Pull a Spark Plug out, and notice some of it was missing?

My engine has been running a little rough for the last couple of days, mostly missing at idle, and generally sounding like sh!t .

I pulled the Plugs to check for fouling, and found the # 3 cyclinder was missing the insulator from around the electrode.

I wonder where it went, what caused it?, and what kind of damage did it cause when it made it's way out?

I'm thinking it was caused by detonation, from when i was playing with the new turbo.

the turbo sounds fine, and spools the way it should, could a small piece of ceramic do damage to the exhaust impeller? and should i be worried about the cyclinder/piston?

Yes, I've pulled a spark plug with parts missing, but on my MR2 (never found the part, no apparent damage, I was lucky). It's very bad for your car to have those parts go through it. However, if you've driven it like this for any amount of time, I doubt it's likely to get worse. Whatever is missing has already done damage and blown through, or embedded itself into something. I guess there's a chance something could let go later on because of this, but if it didn't happen right away...
 
i've heard of those bosch platinum 4's having pieces come off in turbo engines, never known anyone who has actually had this happen, just heard about it happeneing. id just put in a new plug and if it runs fine, then ur prolly ok...hopefully
 
your fine. That brittle piece of ceramic was pounded into glass dust within a few engine revolutions by the piston. Sometimes you can damage a valve seat. My friends Starion would break the throttle body butterfly shaft and swallow a nut. He drove it like that for days( foolishly I know) without doing anything other than pounding the sh*t out of the piston dome. Sound like you are running a little lean. Did you upgrade the stock fuel system yet?
 
not yet, it detonated cause i was playing around with the boost level, and hit fuel cut at 17psi. ( i know it's a no no!) the fuel upgrades are coming in two weeks, dsmlink, 255lph walbro, and 660's, adj. fpr.

you shouldn't use platiunums on turbos....
