I have a wierd situation which I don't know if I should consider a problem. A couple of days ago my check engine light came on in my 1991 eclipse. There was no performance loss and the light stayed on while I made it home. The next day I was going down the state and I had GMC Yukon right on me on the highway so I floored it to get by the car next to me so I could let the Yukon by. Anyways I reved it to 4000 RPMs and the light went off. Since then it was fine until today when the light came on on the way to school, and when I reved it again to around 4000 the light went off again. whatis up with the light???? Thanks for any help you could give. The eclipse has a 1.8 L with 136,000 miles. It has a cold air intake and an after market muffler for mods
Thanks again

go to auto store like AutoZone. I don't think Advance does this. and have them pull the code for you I think it is like $20-30 and then tell us what code it is.

Usually, the ECU should store the code in the memory even when the CEL is not lighted.

first gen go to radio shack get a cheap analog multi meter and aligator clips and read the codes yourself by going under the dash at diagnostic port. dont spend 20-30$ for 1 code when you can spend 20 at radio shack and get every code from now on by yourself

I used to have a 93 Mustang that did the exact same thing. Turned out it was the 02 sensor. I'm in a 2gnt Eclipse now, and my CEL was on about 3 months ago. I ended up being a little low on oil - I added about 3/4 of a quart, and the CEL was gone!

Copuld be something like bono316 is saying. The o2 may have been clogged or something, and when you heated it up by goig past 4K, it could have cleaned itself. However, dn't let it go. Get a pocketlogger to check the sensor. It may be time for replacement.

Ok thanks! The light hasn't come on in the past few days but I will get the O2 sensor changed. Here is a stupid question, what happens if the O2 sensor does go?
