When I turn my stereo on, the power antenna goes up..it fully extends...and then a VERY loud buzzing noise comes from it, lasting about 10 seconds. I know it's probably the motor, but it fully extends!! Anybody have any ideas what exactly's causing it?? Thanks in advance

Warning: I know NOTHING about your antenna... but every antenna that I've ever used has a 'limit' switch that senses when the antenna is fully up and another to sense fully down. Perhaps the 'up limit' switch is going bad, or sticky, or ??????, so it takes a few seconds for the switch to click in and tell the motor to "stop with the damn noise already!!". There may also be a 'sticky' relay in the motor assembly.... but like I said, I'm not familiar with '96's. For all I know there could be an electrical stress sensor that shuts the thing off when the motor strains [fully up].
Wait for other posts. Maybe someone has experienced similar problems with these antenna motor thingies.
Good luck!!!!!

If it didnt stop I would say it was a short. But the noise stops so its probily the motor. If its the motor there might also be a short in the motor some where. Or it could just be EM interference from the motor.

Does the buzzzzz sound like nylon gears rubbing teeth? Are you sure that the antenna is really fully extended?
I still think that the motor is not shutting off so the buzz is the sound of the gears skipping [trying to put the antenna up even more]. What happens if you pull up on the antenna as it's going up. To do this you'll need very long arms or a helper!!!!

Yeah! That's what I think. I just don't know how the thing knows to shut off when fully up. My guess is that there is a switch in the motor body assy & it's not switching off right away [for whatever reason]... Like I wrote before, it's just a guess!!!
You've got me curious. If I get a chance [no promises, dude!] I'll go to the local dealer [They let me look thru the s/m's whenever I want.. They're nice.] & see if I can find a diagram of a power antenna for '96. It is the OEM antenna, right?...... If not then write back and stop me from wasting time looking in the s/m!!!

Then I guess that the only way to see what's goin' on is to open that baby up [baby = motor]!... or replace it temporarily with another one and check out the action... or just live with the noise till it either drops dead or explodes!!

Any update on this one? How did you solve this problem? On guy here has also the same problem...
