Valve cover cracking

My valve cover just cracked for the second time in a month. The first time I overtorqued the bolts and it cracked. This time I had a torque wrench set at 4 lbs. and one corner on the indied pattern cracked. I was in the middle of putting permatex on the bolts. I have two questions: the engine was still hot when this happened, could that be why it cracked so easily? Also am I using the correct amount of torque? I was told to use 2-6 lbs. This is starting to be very irritating.

I also cracked mine in two different places. I used JB Weld and haven't had a problem yet.That was about 6 mo. ago. Just make sure you put it on about 1/4 inch thick so theres not a chance of it cracking again. Then when you have the extra money buy another one.
I think the torque wrench should be set at 2-3 lbs.( I THINK)!

Valve cover center bolts = 36 in-lbs (3 ft-lbs).

Valve cover-to-cylinder head bolts = 24 to 36 in-lbs (2 - 3 ft-lbs).

This is for 1st gen.
