Hey, I need some help with my dsm. Last night i took it to a local hangout and raced just once. The race went fine my car shifted mint, Then i took my car home which is about 20 miles away. I stopped at Mcdonalds halfway. To McDonalds my car was fine but when i left my 3rd and 4th gear was gone. The shifter wud go all the way up and down but Nothing happened. no go. I cud see if one gear went cause the car has 150k on it , But i don't get how 2 gears went at one time. let me know any suggestions on what may be wrong. Thanks for your time. Gary

you stripped your gears? or ur trans has had it is my guess but thats me ^^; maybe people know more than me. G/L

damn dude, sounds like me...are you stuck in any gears? i'm stuck in 3rd ...and your other gears still work? correct my newbie self if i'm wrong, but is there a 3-4 synchro, cause if there is, then maybe thats what went out. cause i know there's a 1-2 synchro

NO i can shift into all gears.. just. i can shift really easily into 3rd and 4th and when its Supposed to be in gear.. there is nothing

try adjusting your shifter cables before dishing out any cash for someone to look at it. My friend's 92 AWD was grinding and acting goofy until he played with the cables and voila! No more shifting problems

That sounds like my problem.. My car is stuck in 3rd gear, it'll move down to 4th gear position but it's like there is a ton of slack, and even in 4th gear position it won't get out of 3rd gear. Had to drive it home from a friends house only using 3rd gear, that sucked hehe. To get to the shift fork the transmission must still be removed, correct?

Definitely sounds like the 3-4 fork. By all knowledge I have, the transmission needs to be removed for that, unless by some undiscovered miracle, someone knows how to disassemble it inside the car.

3lbs of C-4 and a 9-volt battery...I'd say take it out.

It's a good opportunity to upgrade your flywheel and clutch, and if you noticed your shifter moving on it's own in 5th you may want to pop the tranny open and make sure the top 36mm bolt is tight. Don't need it flying through your tranny later. http://home.earthlink.net/~qwik93awd/Vfaq/shifter.htm

This situation is either an opprotunity or a problem. The good thing is, you get to make that decision.
