so my gst now has a serious rod knock im not sure if i should try and replace the bottom end or if it would just be easier to swap it with a 420a motor just to get it back on the streets and if i do tht..im not to sure how much work is gonna be needed??? HELP!!!!!

Why would you replace an 4G63 with a 420a?? That would be a whole lot more work than just putting a new turbo motor in.

How do you know the engine is knocking? how is the engine running exactly? might just be lifter tick. Check the oil level and do a compression test first.

ok well car was run hard low on oil..knock is coming from the bottom i can feel it through the floor and pedal..mechanic told me i was a bearing so i replaced it. still ticked a little bit den a week later started knocking again and knocks harder with any acceleration..

im lookin for a not soo expensive way to get her back on the streets

Find a used block and swap it in. You should be able to find one with less than 100k on it.

I saw one go on here for like 200 bucks. (I would say expect 500 to be safe)
Throw a gasket set, t-belt and waterpump in it and youll have a solid car. (hopefully)

That's what I mean by new block. That's basically everything under the head gasket.

If you wanted to just replace the bearings, that's fine. It might cost more though... When you replace bearings, you have to have the crank inspected and probably re surfaced. While the engine is out, I would replace the rings. Then you would have to hone, possibly bore and the list goes on.

I just found 6 4g63 bottom ends on ebay. Just pick up one of those and use the parts from you other motor. (Oil pump, Water pump, Ect) It would be alot cheaper than rebuilding it. Plus a 420 motor is not what you want and besides that the motor is back words from the 4g63 (cams and trans are on the other side of the car.
