Okay..well, its been about a year, maybe more since my car has broke down and I haven't yet been able to diagnose it. I was under the belief that it was my lifters, but I'm not sure anymore. And I don't want to go ahead and buy the parts and find out that I was wrong and be out of money, because I'm pretty broke.

My car is a 1995 Eagle Talon TSi FWD; Automatic.

Now, story on why it no longer runs...

Last year around this time, I was driving my car to subway. Since I"ve had the car I've had "lifter tick" so I thought nothing of it because I heard that Eagles do that alot and it isn't necessarily hazardous. So I'm driving and suddenly I realize my car is trying to die when I take my foot off the gas, so I keep my foot on the gas and keep it goin until I reach subway and have to stop for traffic before I turn. BOOM..it dies and will not start up. I notice there was some anti-freeze on the ground, so I push my car in the parking lot and have it towed to my house. Headgasket was good, and I guess there was anti-freeze because it had overheated possibly?

NOw, it wouldn't start after the tow, so we let it sit, put the head back on after checking it and it started, but it knocks really loud!..

So a couple people said it could be my lifters, someone else said it could be a piston or some thing. I'm not really too mechanical when it comes to cars so I can't say for sure what it is. But if anyone could help me, please do so, I'm desperate and can't afford a garage to tow it their and then charge me an arm and a leg.

Thank you!

first thing that comes to my mind about the knocking if it wasnt knocking before you pulled the head then maybe it was reassembled out of time and the sound is the valves coming into contact with the pistons....you say it was not the head gasket? Did you find where the coolant was coming from then? Little more info will help for sure...

Coolant came from the reservoir I believe, thats what lead to me believe that it overheated.

There was a ticking ever since the head was first assembled. but it was timed after everything was assembled and new belts all around, new altinator, new almost everything on the top half. Someone informed me that the ticking was just infamous "lifter tick" though that happened to come with Talons. So I thought nothing of it.

But then one day it just tried dying and would only stay started with my foot on the gas, but when it did die because I couldn't give it gas it wouldn't start back up, and when it did start there was a huge loud KNOCK.
