[RESOLVED] 1st or second gear and i floor it to redline it flickers at 3500-4000

i have a 98 gst stock turbo , i would appreciate the help , when drivin in 1st or second gear and i floor it to redline it flickers at 3500-4000 and doesnt redline and the it sounds like its sucking in air and doesnt allow me to redline any ideas what the problem could be

What kind of plugs are you running? This sounds exactly like what my car did when I first got it. Can you elaborate more on what the boost gauge reads and what exactly you mean by flicker?

There is a step by step guide on how to make a boost leak tester on vfaq.com. They aren't that expensive and you may even be able to find one on the classifieds.

i ran it for codes jus now and it says my 2nd cylinder is misfiring , could that be the problem? flickering meanin i cant redline tha rpms stay at nno more then 4000 and cnt redline

do you have a stock boostgauge, of aftermarket?

build a boostleak tester, spray down every hose with soapy water, and fix everything that bubbles.


also go get those sparkplugs and new wires.

Absolutely, most misfiring problems are caused by the ignition. Of course with my Alero the coolant gasket was blown and coolant was in the combustion chamber, but all four other misfiring problems I've fixed were either coil, plug wires, or spark plugs. Still haven't figured out my friends 420a misfire at idle.

i jus purchased ngk bpr7es spark they didnt have the 6s but those should b fine?

"i just installed NGK BKR7E plugs and gapped them to .032 The car is still doing the same exact thing. No difference it is still stuttering and losing power at 4000-4500 rpm."

This was a 420a turbo but they were still telling him to get the 6es at .028 gap

I do know of a dsmer that uses the 7's without a problem.

Im pretty sure that your problem is a boost leak though.

how much are you boosting psi wise? stock or is it turned up?

problem solved........changed my spark plugs and now im runnin nice thanks for the help

haha, told you. I'm glad it was a simple fix. I love how the people who simply posted "check for a boost leak" deleted their posts.
