hay guys i have a question and i really need some help with this. ok my car gets close to over heating but it doesnt because i dont let it, when im sitting and idling the car is somewhat half way heated up but when i start to drive it it starts to climb but doesnt pass the mark to over heating or go in the red. Ive had thr car for 3 weeks now and havent had this problem before. The other night when it started there was no coolant in the upper hose by the t stat but there was some in the resevior and it was bubbling. I topped the upper hose off and then burped it and let it sit for just a little bit, then checked it again to see where i was and the coolant sat there. I then drove it home and the temp gauge went up after a while then ent back to normal. i just changed the cap could i need a new t stat, if not what could i do because im frustrated. Please help me.

If it is not your HG try putting some water wetter in. It fixed my problem, But i have exhausted every other possibility at that point.

i dont have any white smoke coming from it either well i guess ill try some water wetter and change my t stat thanks.

ok well i have water wetter and another t stat so thats the first thing im going to do, but i have another question too, is one of my fans suppose to be on when im driving to and could it make a difference if it was on?

Excluding serious engine problems:
If overheating during idling, problem is fans.
If overheating during cruise, problem is airflow.

Anything above half is overheating and potentially dangerous/bad for your car.

Main fan only comes on after a certain temp.

For solutions, please do a search.

If your water pump is fine thermostat is fine maybe something is plugging up the radiator too, you have only had it for 3 weeks maybe some one put egg or something in there to plug a hole or that radiator sealant, i don't really know if it would help u at all but a flush might not hurt, idk just throwing ideas your way hope I've help in some way.

hay man thanks any help is helpful and the funny thing is that ive read and read and read and some of them are still having this problem so its kind of frustrating but hay the luv for our cars.im going to flush the radiator put some water wetter in it change the thermostat and i want to change the radiator but ill see were i am when i flush it.

I didn't read every thing but I did read suggestion of major parts. Keep it simple start with the basics before you move on to the bigger parts. Change your thermostat and flush your radiator. If you still have problems after that pressure test your system. Are your fans turning on?

yea the fans are coming on, but as of right now i cant get to it untill tomorrow so im ging to take the radiator out and try to clean it so ill be posting the results sunday or monday.

another fix you can do is wire the fans so they both come on at the same time, an if you need to take it even one further then that you can also wire them to a switch so they are constantly on. ive had alot of heating issues and this is what i had to do

Yes I had to do the same thing. I wired my fans to a Relay and into a switch. My Big FMIC was blocking all the air to my Radiator and making the car get HOT

Try hooking BOTH fans to a switch and see if that helps.

Also Do a Pressure test on the cooling system. Autozone rents a Pressure tester for 20 dollars!

aw man i finally got to it today and geuss what i saw? i took the radiator out and the radiator was straight up crap it was falling apart and the whole bottom of it was completely gone i could actually stick my finger through one of the holes it was ugly. Now i have to find a radiator in time because i just sold my other car so im probabky going to be on the car all day tomorrow, what can you say its a passion.:D

o ya i didnt see you were a midwest 1g. ya my radiator turned to complete crap to so i got a new one

yea im in the midwest man that thing fell apart right when i blew on it its coo i got a new one coming today so im going to do the whole cooling system so it should continue to run like a champ. now i need to hook up all of my gauges boost controller and turbo timer that should be really fun.

Try in this order to solve it. Remember always try the simplest first.
1. Drain , refill , and burp
2. Water Wetter
3. Thermostat
4. Water pump

o thanks but i found out what the problem was it was the radiator, so i got a new one changed the thermostat and put water wetter in it it now cools like a champ thanks everybody for the help thats why i love this forum.:thumb:

Might as well replace ALL hoses while you're at it. Water Wetter does no good if you have coolant leaks. Eliminate ALL leaks first then start adding water wetter. The hoses are all pretty easy to get to compared to lots of other cars. If you need to build shrouding/baffles to direct more air into the radiator so that it goes through it and not around, then that will take care of some water temp issues as well. Upgrade pressure cap also, keeps water/coolant from boiling earlier.
