will a walbro 255 kill stock injectors, without a good afpr?

I just installed another motor in my friends car and I know this motor is good because it ran before I pulled it out of the donor car. my friend has a 255 and then his motor messed up because he didnt have a afpr. his motor would not crank then and will not crank with the new motor. We just wanted to start the car today to see if the new motor will work. It would not start up even though I get a spark, fuel pressure, and the plugs are installed correctly(4123). Would the injectors have gotten ruined or is this normal for the car not to crank from a 255 install?

The fuel pump should not effect the cars starting and running at all. It may run a little rich at low load, but that is it. You have another problem to find.

A 255 with stock regulator will make the car run rich. All the extra fuel will wash down the cylinder walls and eventually contamiate the rings which will require a rebuild. This is not your problem.

Is there anything you did to the engine when it was out? CAS 180* out? Compression good? Check for spark at the PLUGS? Injectors open when engine is cranking? Fuel pump turn on when engine is cranking? Fuel pump installed correctly with the o-ring? All sensors hooked up correctly?

I have fuel pressure, I have a spark. I didnt install the fuel pump so I dont know about it. All of the sensors are hooked up, this is my 3rd engine swap.

I drove the donor car to the garage to pick the motor out. The only thing that is different is the injectors and fuel rail from my friends motor that wouldnt crank in his car.

Basically, the problem must be either the fuel rail, or a wire may have gotten eaten by an animal, the fuel pump, or the ecu. A fuelab fpr is on the way as well.

IMO that the motor is not the issue, it doesnt matter what kind of motor you put in this car it wont crank with the fuel setup.

I bad CAS will cause no spark right?

The gas gauge is between empty and 1/4. today, I got it to crank for a little while then cut it off. I installed the afpr before I cranked it. The car has been sitting for over a year. The engine will fire in some cylinders but not all. I dont understand what is going on. I tried to do a compression test on number 4 cylinder and the gauge didnt read, is that possible for the gauge to not read at all? Could the valves be bent that bad? Does anyone know how to do a compression test properly? I fell like I did it right but this doesnt seem right to have the gauge not read.

I would say find a set of injectors just to try, cause if u have spark and fuel pressure something isn't right after the fuel rail. If it would not fire in the other motor and u have the same fuel rail in the new motor its something in the fuel rail.

I like the way your thinking. Im going to take the fuel rail off and clean it out, and maybe even jack my brothers fuel rail and injectors as well. Ill let you know what the outcome is tomorrow.:thumb:

idk. its really hard to say when most of my time, my problem during engine swaps is dead battery or no gas left in the gas tank. I will recharge the battery, add gas and change to fuel rail and injectors and see if anything changes. I kind of have a small fear of it being the motor. the motor ran before I took it out, but I got it to my shop and saw that the cam timing was off 3 teeth. It strange that it could run that far off. I reset the timing to dead on now.

Pull the fuel rail off with the injectors but leave everything together. Take the cas off and spin it by hand with the ignition on. When you do this the injectors should open and spray fuel one at a time.

Has the gas been in the car since it has been sitting?

Drain the gas out. Don't even try to run the car with that gas. There is a drain plug on the driver side of the tank.

Yes, injectors also run off the cas. They will fire one at a time.

How long did you try and start the car? I have the walbro 255lph fuel pump in my 97 gst and it requires I hold the key for a little to start the car in the mornings. I have not installed a afpr yet or the rewire kit I bought from STM.

I tested the injectors and cleaned them and they work good, I changed the sparked plugs from ngk 6s to 7s and it cranked. this is very strange because the motor cranked in a different car with these plugs. the only thing now is the cel is on but Im going to read those codes tomorrow.

When checking the injectors using the CAS method, you do not have to pull the rail with the injectors to do this. Just listen to each injector, it should make a clicking noise. Just an easier way to check them I feel.

This is true.

The only reason I reccomended taking the rail off is to see if the spray pattern seems good. This of course doesn't matter right now, because if they are at least spraying with a bad spray pattern the cars hould still start.
