Ok I couldnt find anything relevant with the wonderful search button so here we go. I had a problem with my fuel pump last month and went through all the wonderful issues with it. Here is a thread that explained what the issue was then and what was done about it.

:beatentodeath:

My car seems to run fine, but now when i start it up. Instead of reving up to 2.5k and coming back down. it just kinda slowly works its way up to 1500 MAYBE and comes back to about 900 for idle. It will only do this the first time you start it. i can shut it off immediately restart it and it will go up to about 2.5k and come back down like normal. If i let the car sit for awhile and then try to start it again i will get the sluggish start again. I have a feeling im gonna have more fuel problems coming up and was wondering what to do next. Or what could be causing this problem. With the bad gas that i got in the above thread we replaced the pump, wiped as much crap out the tank as i could and put a BIG bottle of lucas in to try and eat up anything that was left. Any thoughts here would be good. Maybe i can get a video of it this evening and post it up tomorrow. Thanks for any help in advance

it is almost time to change my plugs but i have no hesitation or anything. I would think if it was a spark issue it would happen everytime not just after it has set for a lil while. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

I would recommend hooking up a fuel pressure tester to your fuel rail . It's possible that your fuel regulator may not be working . I recently had that problem. Your fuel pressure should be around 44 pounds at idle. I was having starting problems due to fuel pressure too high. Wayyyy too high. Anyways, It took me weeks of worry before I decided to check that. It's just a thought.

Here is the new pump in the assembly. Be careful when putting the pump up into the fuel feed line - the rubber O-ring should be lubed with some grease, oil, or spit (hey, it works) so that the O-ring slips easily into the feed line. If it does not, the O-ring can kink or tear, and the car will be hard to start after sitting a few minutes, as the kinked/torn O-ring will allow the fuel to bleed out of the feed lines. The symptom will be that the car will take several seconds to start after sitting more than a minute or 2, but starts right up if you turn it off and then immediately start it back up.

I found this on the VFAQ, it seems like it might be the problem you are describing so you might need to go replace your O ring.

I will see if i can get a fuel pressure tester and see what that says this weekend. That should help diagnose either of the problems. Either the pressure being to high or the o ring cracked and being to low. I did change my fuel filter out when all this happen. Im not real sure about the o ring becuase my fuel pump came with all new part and I put them all on. If i remember correctly the one i got said that the o ring might not be used and there was no o ring on the pump I took off, as it was an autozone pump as well. I will try to test it this weekend and go from there. The car does seem like it is starving for fuel, but i dont have to turn it over numerous times. I can hit the key once and it will start. just a slow RPM rise after it sits for a few. I can see the arguement for both ways with low FP or a bad FPR that is drowning it. Thanks for all the suggestions. Anybody have any other ideas that i can plan to check out on my day off Sunday?
