ok so i just recently bought my first car. 92 Talon ES. Love the thing to death and what not but i knew it had its problems. I figure the idle surge is just a vacuum leak. The kid i bought it from said it started to surge after he took apart the throttle body and cleaned it. He told me it needed a new ISC but i doubt that. When i start it up in the morning before i go to school the lifters tick but when i drive it, it will go away at about 3000 RPM. When its warm it usually wont do it, but from time to time it comes back then goes away soon after. Is that just normal DSM type problems or something i should really be worried about. The most serious problem i have though is i leak about a full resivoir full of hydraulic fluid from the clutch boot. About once a week i have to either top off the master cylinder or fill it up. Im guessing its a bad o-ring in the clutch release because thats where its leaking from, from my standpoint at least. If needed i have pictures but i appreciate the help!

Well I have good news for you. These are all common easily remedied problems.

Your leaky fluid is the clutch slave cylinder. Anytime it's leaking out of the boot that means it's leaking past the piston seal. So everytime you step on the clutch some is leaking out thru the boot. It's seen it's last days. You can rebuild it or replace it's your choice. Not a big deal. Costs about $40 maybe from an auto parts store.

Don't worry about the lifter ticking. Run some seafoam thru your engine right before you change your oil. Also using a thicker oil seems to help. If it really bothers you they can be replaced with 3G revised lifters. The oiling holes are too small in the 1 & 2G's so they tick. No big deal just annoying.

You can test the IAC sensor to see if it's within spec. Check the VFAQ it will tell you how to test it. Common problem with our cars. Also not that big of a deal just annoying. Mine is unplugged in my 90 Laser RS. Idles great now. I would fix it but since it idles fine I'm not messing with it.
