ignition or starter relay? 2g gst 95

Ok This is weird I hook the battery up and the (key isnt) in the car. but the brake light comes on the dash and the srs air bag comes on. I turn the key and none of the other accesory lights come on and it dosnt crank. its not the factory key either! could this be a ignition prob?

i jus got the car and for some reason the ignition only worked sometimes. I put the key
in and it does nothing. I keep trying and the dash lights up and it works fine my
buddy is a mechanic and said the ignition is prob going bad. I tested the little black wire on the starter when u turn the key to start its should have 12v and mine didn't so the manual said its either a bad relay circuit or ignition switch.
but since the dash only lights up sometimes when the key is put in I figured Ignition? But I want to see if anyone more experienced knew?

you could have a bad starter. because if the starter doesnt crank the flywheel than the car wont crank at all.

check to make sure that the engine is completely grounded.

I had the starter and battery tested they are fine. ok when I turn the key the accessory lights dont come on such as the check lights and so... but I can turn on the ac and the wipers?????? Kinda weird huh?

Bad ignition switch. Wipers are on a separate part and wire out of that switch.

Trying to figure out my starter issue here. It's doing it more often now and leaving me stranded sometimes. It happens very randomly, but when I try to start my car everythign powers up etc. but my starter sounds almost like a fan kicking on, is that my starter spinning but not engaged? Bc the only thing that seems to work is tapping on the starter with a wrench. So I am guessing my starter is going out but I just would like to confirm.

Yep the engagement mechanism is shot. New starter time or sometimes you can just take it apart, clean the mechanism and gears, and lube it.

Well called around to find the best price most places wanted $140-00 or so but got a reman from O'reilys for $65-00 with life time guarantee!

Note that most auto stores sell extremely poor quality starters and alternators so don't be surprised if you have to return it on this "lifetime guarantee" over and over. If you don't believe this just search these forums (also: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/263621-alternator-output-problems.html#post151468330). The best place to buy a starter or alt is a starter/alt repair shop. They also will fix yours if you wish for much cheaper.
