Ok first problem..I just got my '92 Laser AWD running..but when I bought it..for some reason there was a FWD tranny in it..with axles..the guy I bought it from said it needed a slave cylinder..so i replaced it and I thought it was working..but when I take off from a dead stop there is ALOT of clutch chatter/jumping..also..sometimes the clutch won't disengage..I've tried pumping the pedal like crazy, try easing into gear, snapping it into gear, nothing works. And then sometimes when i do get into gear, the clutch is super grabby sometimes, with the clutch all the way to the floor..it will still lurch forward sometimes..and then..every once and awhile the clutch and tranny are both smooth as butter and work perfect except for alittle chatter when you take off...wtf..do you guys think this is a slave cylinder problem..or clutch problem? because who knows what type of hack job the tranny/clutch/flywheel setup has..

Problem 2..overboost..wayyy overboost hitting 16-17 psi in second and spiking into 20 and hitting fuel cut usually resulting in a humungous backfire with a broken downpipe..EVERYTHING on the car is stock except for a cone filter, and the broken downpipe, and I put a boost gauge in..I put new, gapped plags in and bought some MSD ignition wires for it, but it still has a crazy hesitation, but the hesitation isn't happening at full boost it happens at about 10 psi, then pass and the boost will crank up to 17-20 psi depending on what gear i'm in. I know I need to fix the downpipe, but do you guys think that an open DP can cause it to overboost that hard?

First with the clutch (which I think you said was stock), have you bled the system at all? A shifting engagement point sounds like there might be air in the system thats expanding and contracting, depending on the temperature. I would replace the fluid and bleed your lines. The broken DP might be causing the boost creep and/or the hesitation, but I would also check your vacuum line that connects to the wastegate actuator for any looseness/cracks/etc.

Yeah I bled the system when i originally put the new (used) slave cylinder on the tranny..btw it was a slave cylinder from a '90 FWD..do you guys think thats whats causing it..they looked identical except for the hydro line and bleed screw locations were reversed..I thought it looked fine..now it seems to not be working at all when I just went for a ride. I can handle the overboosting problem by just staying out of it, but the clutch problem is a stumper..I guess all i can do is try to bleed it, and if that doesn't work..i guess i'm gonna' have to pull the tranny out.

i work at a tranny shop and i found with the problem your having is a bad pressur plate ive replaced a few where they had about the same amont of chatter and had engagment. if your getting a good stream of fluid out of your slave i would say its the pressure plate

Yeah..weird I used to work at a tranny shop too but I never really worked on manual trannys..just slushbox domestics..anywho..i'm not going to rule that out, especially because if I can get the car into gear and slip the clutch enough to take up the slack up in the drivetrain, that when it will grab, hard and chatter if I release it from there. This might be a not-so fun weekend..But thanks for the help guys, I do appreciate it. On that note..do you guys know if a '90 FWD OEM disc and pressure plate will work on a '92?...assuming its a '92 flywheel

Update: well I just went and bled the clutch, and the throw-out bearing fork..whatever you wanna call it is maxed out agains't the inspection window. I had a buddy put the clutch to the floor and I tried to pry the arm out further with a screwdriver hard enough to break it and it didn't move..so tomorow's task is pulling the tranny off. anyone know the weak spots i have to look out for? I'm low and cash right now and would rather not break more parts. I have the clutch/flywheel/pressure plate out of a '90 FWD I can throw in it, it was a low mileage stock one that still grabbed good when my buddy blew his motor..so will that setup work? also..would a '90 FWD tranny work with a '90 flywheel/Pressure plate and clutch on a '92 motor in a '92 car?..in case my tranny is trashed from all this grinding..
