Well, I figured out what was making noise on my car, the Crank Shaft Pulley but while taking that apart I realize the inner part of the outside ring had broken and its seal had grinded its away into the crankshaft

My question: Can I just chip away the stuff where the red arrows are pointed at, purchase a new crank pulley assemble everything and I'm good to go? So far I'm chipping at it and it all seems to be coming off.

just purchase a new harmonic balancer, and it wouldnt hurt to try to find a used timing cover. it never hurts to be safe

DSMs go through harmonic balancers about as fast as Micheal Moore goes through Cheetos™

Get a new OEM harmonic balancer and a used timing cover. As was mentioned already, you don't want a shard of aluminum coming off and taking out your timing belt.

EDIT: And don't be tempted by solid balancer replacements. The stock part damps out tortional vibration or "ringing" of the crankshaft, and the solid ones do not, thus permitting the crankshaft to resonate tortionally.

I have an extra if you want to purchase it. I replaced mine with a Unorthodox crank pully. I have ripped a few like apart like that back in the day. Very common on dsms. Like everyone else said do not reuse that one.

Thank you so much for the quick replies! Just one more question.

Don't try to reuse that pulley. It completely garbage. Just get a new harmonic balancer and try to find another timing belt cover just to be safe

Which is the timing belt cover?

do you see the patern that the broken pulley made ... try to remove it using cutter or something, be carefull not to hit the belt .. buy a new pulley .. for me replacing the timing belt will be useless IMO .. cause after months of use youll find out that its the same as the one you replaced ... dont worry about rocks or things going in the timing belt area .. cause when u put the pulley it will be covered any way.. :thumb:

It'll cost less than bent valves. IMHO it's good insurance. A used lower timing belt cover can't be all that much, honestly. The accessory belts are already off anyway.

The same thing just happend to my friends talon. When we got it running we heard a noise that sounded like a bearing was knocking and when we started looking around we noticed that none of the belts were turning and we seen the problem. Lucky for him I keep extra parts around.

Okay, I just got my pulley.

Now for the "dumb" question. I forgot which belts go where.

Does anyone have an online manual or some where they could suggest where I go to see where the belts go again. It's been a couple days and I just completely forgot!

Thanks again!
