Finally getting to the small oil leak @ the valve cover half-round seal & #4 spark hole, , I replaced the valve cover a little over a week ago. Making sure to only apply RTV at the corners of the gasket, I thought it worked out well...until I blew 3 quarts of oil out the back side of the valve cover. 3 to 4 hours later cleaning that freakn' mess up and another valve kit installed, I RTV'ed the hell out of it and this time it took! I Simple-Green'd it to hell w/ a low pressure pesticide pump and water...I am still burning off residual oil from the exhaust pipes and shield...

Now working on my last problem (before I start my 420a stage II project) "The chirping belt while car warms up", I put the car up on front jacks and started it up. Looking from underneath, I see that the damn crank pulley moves too much from side-to-side and that is obviously the source of the noise! It's not enough to throw off a belt, but instantly pissed me off: I have previously allowed a freinds mechanic (freakn' shister who set the rear seal wrong and i had to replace it again) change timing, water pump, rear seal, ect. and that is the only time that pulley would have been moved since it was rolled off from the factory!

So does anyone see this as an issue @ high RPMs...? I propbably should plan on swapping the pully out and hope it is the pulley that is causing the play. I know I need to aquire that Chrystler special puller but wanted some insight on possible danger before I can get to it...

Thanks...

Well, you can get the puller from autozone/checker auto. You can rent it from there it is just a 3 jaw puller. Checker rents it free for 24 hours I think. A new pulley will run you $100+ I believe and it is highly unlikely to me that it is actually bent.

If the pulley is wobbling it may not be on all the way or on straight. I don't know how mechanically inclined you are, but if you have your 420a turbo'd you must be halfway knowledgeable. Ill assume you know how to access the bolt holding it on. I would stick a bar to block the pulley movement and tighten the bolt more and see if the pulley moves in farther. Obviously be sure not to strip it, but you should be able to torque on it pretty hard as the bolt is how the pulley is usually pressed back on as far as I know.

As to whether or not it will cause damage at high RPM's. I can't say it WILL, but I can say it is probably not good for the crank and or bearing inside. It is probably vibrating the hell out of the crank.

After saying all of that I honestly believe the pulley was just not put on all the way by your shady/lazy mechanic. He probably assumed it was " good enough".

Good luck

Right on. I'll try to torque down the crank pulley bolt and hope that was it. There is probably just 1/64" of deviation to either side but I hope the crank bearing on the passanger side is fine...I'll try it out this weekend...

That's some good info. Luckily, the play I have is not a bad as his, I don't loose belts yet...

I did have up on the jacks this weekend with my buddy wedging a pry-bar between the "spokes" of the pulley and the block (mine is differnt then his) which worked pretty well to keep the crank shaft from turning, but to no avail. That sum-bi*** is tight! I could not budge it any further w/ a moderate sized breaker-bar. I think I will go the route of shopping for an under drive pulley. This way, if it did not seat right previously, I can be sure to seat the new one on correctly...

Decided to go with the OBX pulley for the 420a and bought it today...not many vendors to choose from for the 420a...

Im not sure if you know or not but you will need new belts for PS and AC, just a heads up so when you get it installed and the current ones don't work you have to stop and go to the store and get new ones.

Doooooooh! I was hoping the difference in travel would not be that much and the tension play would adjust for the difference...

Thanks for the heads up. You wouldn't happen to know thew difference in size, would you?
