Hey everyone.
yes, I've searched.
Ok, so I am installing my RRE stainless brake lines and I CAN NOT get the flare nuts off the rear. I have PB blastered the Hell out of the fittings and yes, I am useing a flare wrench.
The nuts are rounding off and the fitting is so tight on there that it is causeing the flare wrench to stretch open!!

Any Ideas or tricks?
Yes, I tried the vice grips on the rear passanger side and did tear it up a bit, but I filed it back to 10mm on each side to use the flare wrench. Still no go!

Is the line still locked in the bracket with the clip or did you remove it so the whole line is moving? If you removed the clip put it back so that the line doesnt move then try again. You might have to use a wrench or vise grip or a combination of these to break the line loose, one on the top and one on the bottom.

Dan... I had the same problem with mine when I made the switch to SS. I cursed at those fittings for a good couple hours before I said "the hell with it" and got out a couple pairs of good ol' vice grips.

Try that and it should break free fairly easy.

I had the same problem, once it is finally rounded off. I thought thought their was no other way to do it fix, but their is! It was a pain in the a$$ but I had to use vice grips, and suprisingly they worked!

I think the key here is to use 2 pairs of vice grips. One to hold the bottom nut and the other to loosen the top nut. I remember when I first tried it with the flare-nut wrench, I was experiencing the exact same problems you've described. At one point I thought I was going to twist the hard line. Once I switched over to the 2 pairs of vice grips it took me all of 30 minutes to uninstall and install my new brake lines.

TIP: When installing your rear brake lines, be sure to screw them into your calipers before screwing them into your hardline.

Ok the big problem I was having was that I was trying not to destroy the flare nuts.
after rounding off another flare nut, I did just grab the vice grips and clamp them down.
they all popped loose with PB Blaster and destroyed flare nuts. But the install is complete now. They did improve brake pedel feel. Fun stuff, In the last 2 days I've done the stainless clutch line, stainless brake lines and REAL b&m shifter. I love my car:D

when you say brake pedal feel..... do you meanit is more reponsive or what?
im thinking of doing stainless lines as i have replaced all the calipers, rotors with drilled and slotted and new ceramic pads up front and regulars in the rear.

also if any one is replacing rotor for the first time in his/her cars life... good luck.
mine when i bought the car were rused so bad it took an over night soke with PB and me with a 5lb sledge to break them loose.LOL

Dan, please tell me that you upgraded to some EBC brake pads while you were down there? If so... you think your brakes "feel" nice now... wait til those pads have seated and you get a chance to really use them on the freeway. You'll fall in LOVE with your new brake setup all over again.

How hard was that SS Clutch line install... I'd like to do that myself.

Derek-
I already have EBC greens on my car:thumb:

Clutch line was damn easy.
hardest part was...
10mm flare fitting under the fuse box! other than that it was cake.
I did not remove the restrictor because I wanted to see how it felt with just the line. cant say I noticed much of a difference, but the stainless line looks better than the accumulator.
anyway it was also a RRE part.;)
