good or bad idea?

well my 91 tsi is ready for a rebuild. i was going to do a basic rebuild with stock rods and pistons. but i got a great deal on a set of mahle pistons .20 over.. (traded for a used delta gate.) anyways the question is. is it ok to go with stock 1g rods with these pistons? its going to be just a every other day driver. and i do not plan to boost over 20 psi. is this a bad idea? i just don't have the cash of rods at the moment. should i just wait till i have cash for better rods? or put stock pistons on stock rods. thank for the help.

It can be done either way. Personally I would just wait to get some eagle rods though since they are cheap and proven to handle over 600 hp. And then if you decide to run a bigger turbo or more boost later you won't have to worry about it.

so there has not bin any major problems with stock on forged? i thought i heard that the metals expand differant. may cause problems. wondering if this is true

They do expand different. Actually the mahle expand less than other aftermarket pistons so they are closer to stock than the others. How do you think people put aluminum rods on mahles. The aluminum expands different also. The block expands different than forged internals also. This is why you let the car warm up beofre you drive it.
