I've always received good advice on this forum for my 2G, so I hope that this holds true for my winter 1G.
I have a 93 Eclipse GS w/about 120k on it, used only for the winter months. No mods, and I do regular maintenance on it, and don't beat on it.
A couple of weeks ago when it was really cold (under 30f), I had to run somewhere. I started up the car, and the check engine light went on, and the car was running really rough. I proceeded to do my short errand, figuring it might smooth out as some freak issue.
It didn't. The car was very sluggish, taking quite some time to get up to normal speeds even with the pedal all the way down. Then whenever I arrived at a stop light or in traffic, the car was close to dying. The engine was idling higher than normal when driving (500 - 1k+).
The next day, I started my car and no check engine light - however it was again running rough. Once I drove about 5-10 minutes at normal speeds, the check engine light went back on (at this point assuming it has something to do with the engine being warm enough). Car ran rough regardless of light being on or off.
Since this is not ODB-II, I don't have access to a scanner to check the code. I asked a few garage mechanics, and I get several different responses including a possibility of the crank sensor being cracked, bad o2 sensor, etc.
I depend on this car for winter, and don't want to cause further damage by continuing to drive it. Does any one have any advice on what this might be, what other signs I should check, etc??? I was hoping to keep this car for another few winters, so I'm hoping this is nothing major.
Thx in advanced...!
