I need help. My friend car is skipping. Could it be a boost leak? Also the Air fuel ratio gauge moves all over the place. Would the o2 sensor be bad if it moves all over. I am trying to figure out to set stock boost on it. I turned the boost controller all the way down. Would that set stock boost in terms of the car having a turbonetics external waste gate? Thanks, austin.

I don't understand why people ask "could it be a boost leak?". Do a boost leak test and find out for sure, no guessing at all. Even if the boost leak isn't the problem it's still good to do a test once in awhile anyway.

If you turned the boost controller down all the way, then that is the lowest possible boost you can run without changing the wastegate spring.

Oh, and what does "skipping" mean?

Turning the boost controller all the way down will not make "stock" boost. It will make however much boost the wastegate spring is. What spring does he have in the wastegate?

Ok, if you're not going to do a boost leak test first then we need more information.

Other mods done to his car
Last time he did a boost leak test
Did this problem just happen one day or did he buy car this way?
Did it ever boost properly?
etc.
etc.

And the answers to my other questions....?

Eric's still say boost leak test first, then go from there.

So with the boost controller all the way down, it doesn't boost at all and misfires?
And with the boost controller turned up, it boosts fine and doesn't misfire?

I left out a very important detail. when my friend first got his car his grandpa put the battery recharger cables on the battery backwards. It blew the transistor pack. Now that I thought of it the problem could be the ecu. Today we tried different spark plug wires. and thats it. I really think it has something to do with the boost controller setting though. btw. will a 1g ecu work with a 2g? I only have an extra 1g ecu.
