i bought a 91 eclipse off of some used car salesman(bad idea) and he thought it would be funny to not tell me that it won't downshift below 3rd gear. its an auto. i later figured out that the previous owner blew the original engine and put a 97 engine in it, but kept the 91 transmission. is there any way i can make that work? and if so, how?

I have no idea how they made that work.
-On 2g's (95-99) there is one mount on the engine, and three on the tranny.
-On 1g's (90-94) there are 3 mounts on the engine, and one on the tranny.
How are the engine mounts holding your stuff in the car?

Plus, 2g's have a wire driven speedometer, but I don't know what years of 1g's have a cable driven, or if it's all of them... are you sure that's what you've got?

When you test drove the car, did the whole thing just fall out? Could you hear it swinging away like a hammock in the wind in the engine bay?

Wow you got like the worst of both worlds. Usually it's the other way around. 6 bolt swap into a 2G cause the transmission is better built.

Honestly how did the previous owner make that work?

THANK GOD for used car salesmen - If not for them us Real Estate Agents would be the scum of the Earth...

no idea how it worked. and 2 answer another persons question, there r bolts missing in the mounts, so i guess he just jammed everything in there. any suggestions on how to get this thing back on the road for a reasonable price?

Never thought I'd hear the day that a 7bolt was swapped into a 6bolt car.. a 2G 7bolt at that....

Wow. Is there a lemon law possibly in your state?

we bought it from a guy in ohio, the lemon law is different there than in Pa, i dont think it includes used vehicles. all i really want to know is how much it will cost me to put a different transmission in or a different motor that will work with either/or

uHHH - weren't you "selling" a car with bad motor last week? - I guess that's where you got familiar with lemon laws...

Don't be a dick about it. First off, the guy was interested before it ever even blew up. The car seemed to be running fine. He test drove it and was satisfied, had troubles with the loan. Blew up a few days later.

I wasn't trying to intentionally rip anyone off.. it's just something that happened and took a while to happen.
