A recent issue has popped up with my Talon. Here are the symptoms.

Upon startup, idle is ~1k, idles fine. As it starts to warm up the idle slowly raises to ~1.5k and will just randomly die. I restart it and it holds for a few seconds, and dies. When I pedal it to keep it running and its warmed up, it has a hard time revving past ~4k. It gets to 4k, hesitates and stutters for a few seconds, and moves on. I have my ISC, EGR, FIAV blocked and unhooked, which I believe is causing me to throw check engine lights. Can anybody shed any light on the situation?? Could it be ECU related? Timing? I checked all my charge/vacuum pipes and everything seems ok.

Thanks

What about when the car is fully warmed up? does it idle nicely then? I also have those 3 components eliminated, and when I start my car, I usually have to give it gas for a few minutes, until the temp gets up to about 3/8's of the gauge. after that it idles nicely. I also have dsmlink and before that I had an SAFCII, so that balances out the idle. which is probably your problem, if you don't have any type of tuning device, your issue might be because the ecu isnt seeing what to set the idle to.

Well after doing a little work I'm still having the same issues. I put a new intake gasket on because it sounds like there might be a vacuum leak. Same problems. The check engine light hasn't come back on, but the car won't idle. I can pedal it to keep from killing, but if I hold the pedal steady, the revs still rise and fall.

It could be that you are running way to rich. I had this problem the other day and my car would stop and pop a 5k. Would sometimes pop under load at 5k. So i turned the fuel down around that rpm and the problem was gone both when reving and under load.

yes, this definately sounds like a fuel problem

are u sure the vacuum lines are all ok? look for any small leaks or cracks. also have you even looked at the fuel filter?? a clogged filter can interupt fuel flow and they are only $15. if the engine light comes on and stays on long enough to get to an Autozone or something they will check the light and give you the code for free and tell you what is causing the code.

dont rule out the simple stuff, its often over looked :)

i was having idling problems with my car, and now it doesnt run so check the fuel system from the tank to the cylinder ASAP before it wont start like mine :(

I'll look into the fuel filter this week. The check engine light isn't on right now; but I am going to borrow a snap-on scanner from my uncle and see what it can pull. The car isn't drivable, so going to the zone isn't an option. I've checked every vacuum line and they're all in good shape, although most of them have been eliminated.

Thanks for the tips.

hey guys...my car has a similar problem. when i start it, it idles fine..but after it warms up, when i stop...it idle normal. around 1k..then it'll drop down to the first line above 0 rpms. then back up to around 1k..then back down again. Plus...if im driving it steady in 5th gear..around 65 mph..well..i can only describe that it feels like a loss of power..but not really. the rpms and speed stay the same...it just feels like something is shaking, and the exhaust sputters. it's really weird. but if i take it out of gear, and put it back. its fine. but if i drive around 60mph..and keep it steady..it wont do it. any ideas? the car is 95gst..with a 92gst motor in it. it has safcII in it...but i dont know how to use it.
