I have to crank it many times and hold the gas until it is warmed up.

I'm going to make this post very descriptive to see if anyone can help me.
I drive a 91 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. I have had her since April and have changed many things on her since. Right now it is having issues. It runs, and it runs good sometimes, bad others. It wouldn't start a couple weeks back and so I changed the spark plugs, which I did back in September (didnt drive her for 4 months) and it cranked up. It ran very well. Whoever had it before me screwed the wiring. I have to have my lights on to crank it up and many other things like that.

Right now.
It has some kind of fuel issue I think. I have an after market fpr and it is set to what the Haynes Manual says. When I crank it up in the cold, I have to crank it many times and hold the gas until it is warmed up. If I dont, it will just die back down. Sometimes it wont respond to my gas while i'm trying to crank her. It will just die back down like i'm not hitting the pedal at all. It also stutters alot. When its running bad, it stutter when I let off the gas (when driving) or when I'm not at a certain speed.

Also, when you hit the gas hard to boost, it wont boost over 5 pounds (shes set at 10), it will just stutter. But if you ease on it, she will boost to the set boost. I have an aftermarket walbro fuel pump, new
timing belt, new water pump, new fuel filter (being put on today), new idle air control (being put on today), new coil and many other stuff. I'm lost right now.

Pulled out the ECU today and it wasnt burnt. On the bottom side it had a couple of very small brown spots underneath where the (sorry I dont know correct term) round things are on the top side of the ECU. There are 3 of them and on the bottom side of each one it was burnt very little.

I'm hoping all this is one thing. This is my 3rd DSM, I also have a 97 Eagle Talon ESi. This is my pride and joy. She was running great yesterday afternoon, reset the fpr (to make sure) and put some fuel injector cleaner in her, and gave her some tlc and went to work. And after I got after to work, it was like she decided to hate me. :(

Can anyone help?
Hoping to take her to the Jacksonville and Myrtle Beach Meet in February.

If you have any discolration on the ECU circut bord under and around the (three round things) CAPS pull it and have them changed. The longer you wate the more damage will be done and the more $$$ it will cost to fix it.

There are some veary good people on the site (Steve is one of them) that you can send the unit to and be repaired.

So I hear the Idle Speed Control is the same as the Idle Air Control. Have I been told right? Because I have an idle air control in my car, I just need to put it on. So my caps are bad, and could that solve alot of my problems?

When the ECU CAPS go bad it will give you fits you have not dreamed of.ROFL Anything from false check engine lights to stalling at the most inoppertoon times:cry: For the 1G cars if you don't know there history change them out:thumb:. From there any engine electrical glitches are real and not false ones being put out by the ECU.

After my 91 left the wife high and dry on the freeway my last two 90s that has been the FIRST thing done and both had bad CAPS.

Just run a search for CAPS and you can make up your own mind.

So I took my ecu to a electronics place in town that is known for being able to tell you and rebuild your ecu's. I took mine and he told me that my capacitors are new and they brown stuff around are from the old capacitors. He said his best guess is to throw it away (since its so old) and get a new one. Went to Mitsu dealer and they are 1195.50 brand new. Trying to find a used one but I'm not sure thats the problem anymore. Looked at my ISC and decided that the IAC that I have is not the same and just ordered one. Cranked her up this morning and she ran horrible until she warmed up. When I was driving her before she was all the way warm I could hold the gas all the way down to get her to speed up and she wouldn't go over 3000 rpms at all. But once she warmed up she was fine. So does everything think my ISC will fix this problem?

Thanks for all the help.

I still think your fuel pump is going to take a crap on you. I had the same symptoms and thats what the problem was. There were also days where the car would turn on right away and not have any problems (rare) but mostly it did the same thing as your car.

Im glad the caps were changed (one less thing to worry about :thumb:) for the cold start and bad running when cold change out the ECU temp sensor in the lower thermostat housing (the two spade sensor) In a older car it would be like the choke not working.

Don't quote me on this but somewhere I rember someone saying some of the Walbro pumps did not have a return check valve so overnight the gas will drain out of the lines and filter making the first start of the day a long one. I dont have one so that is more or less here say Maybe some on with one will chime in and clarify it.

Just keep pluging at it, It has had 17years of god knows what sort of maintance that has to be put right.:thumb: And by all means DON'T GIVE UP!!:sneaky:
