I am doing a 1g restore i am going to replace all the brake pads rotors and shocks.can i get any suggestions on type brand .its not a project low buck but im not looking to spend tons of money on brakes any hands on knowledge and results would be appreciated.:thumb::thumb:

where do i get dual piston calipers

From any 93-99 AWD DSM. Also the 3000GT NON-TURBO calipers/brackets work. As far as hardware goes....go to The Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels and get the Brembo OEM replacement rotors and Hawk RPS Street pads. The Brembo rotors are about the same price as you would pay at any aftermarket parts store (Autozone, Advanced Auto, etc) but the pads will run you about $80/set. However, this hardware, coupled with the 2 piston calipers, will stop the car about as good as you can ask it to, without spending $700+ on a true aftermarket Big Brake kit.

I have the 2 piston calipers from a 97 GSX on my car. I was using junk pads from Autozone for the longest time. The car wouldn't stop for anything. I threw the Brembo rotors and Hawk pads on, and the car stops as fast as I need it to. And that's slowing down from 135mph 1/4 mile romps.

It amazes me how many people rely on they're brakes everyday to keep them from running into other people or objects. Yet when it comes time to replace them everyone wants to go the cheap route.

Go quality, Go home.

Since we are on the subject about brakes I have a 91 GST and one think that I am having to do is add oil to keep fluid in the car. I have been told to sit the car over dirt over night and see if a line or the calipers are leaking. Nothing and then I have to tell u that the pedal goes down mighty far to catch a grip on the rotors. Im going to replace the brakes anyways because I got it off somebody but any ideas what this may be. I hate waisting money on brake fluid and watching it dissappear like David Copperfield...This is my cry for help before i spend money on the wrong parts

I wouldn't sit it over dirt, I'd probably do cardboard at all 4 corners in a garage. And if you have to go 'mighty far' to grab, it sounds like you need to first bleed your brakes completely and then check for leaks. If you bleed them until all of the spongeyness is gone, and then the next day it's back to where you're at now, then you know that you have some massive leak.

ok i will try that so can i bleed all or one by one

Alright, here's another tip. Go grab yourself a Chiltons or Haynes manual from your local auto parts store. That'll be a big help from here on out. And you bleed all at once, from farthest away from the master cylinder to the closest. So, passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front, then driver front.

Buschur Racing has Power Slot rotors and VGX brake pads for a pretty good deal. I know a lot of guys that run them around here as I also did at one time they get a thumbs up from me.

If you bleed the brakes properly, and still have spongy brakes after a day or so, I'd replace the brake master cylinder. Also, there's a site on the net that tells you if the brake booster is bad as well. Google "brake booster test".

I Believe that with some ABS systems you need to actuate it the solenoids to properly bleed the entire system.
