I have replaced both master and slave cylinders for my clutch. The clutch pedal was also adjusted by a master mechanic. I have bled the clutch numerous times and it's still spungy! When I bleed it, it gets hard to a certain extent and that's it. I can engaged all gears except second gear. I just got the transmission rebuilt replacing the 5th gear and all new internals. All the other gears were in good shape. I know it can't be the transmission. I got a new clutch kit as well. When I put the car in reverse to back up, it jumps out of gear. I believe the shift cables need to be adjusted. But I don't understand why the clutch want firm up. Any suggestions! I really appreciate it!

The clutch pedal is more of a 1g problem. 2g's don't have the z bar set up like a 1g does so there really isnt anything to wear out.

You can try adjusting the shift cables to help with getting it in 2nd and reverse but that obviously won't help with your spongy clutch pedal. Are you making sure to get the air out from behind the slave cylinder when you bleed the clutch?

Maybe there is a pinhole leak or one of the fittings is not sealed properly allowing air to enter the system. If you were to bleed it and immediatly hop in the car and depress the clutch pedal is it stiff at that point then get soft or is it always spongy? There isnt too much to the system so if you already replaced the master and slave and had the clutch pedal adjusted, maybe one of the components are bad.....I have seen some slave cylinders bad out of the box.

How are you bleeding the clutch? Clutch pedal depressed to the ground, then cracking the bleeder, sealing the bleeder, then pumping the clutch pedal? Last time I replaced the Master cylinder it took maybe 10-15 bleeds to get it to feel good again.

Pull the boot off and check as i haven't done it in a few years. Don't forget to reach over and close the slave cylinder while your bleeding the clutch. A bubble of air can get trapped behind there if you just leave it open.

You neglected to say wether or not your making sure to get the air out from behind the slave cylinder. Have a friend come help you. One of you climb under the car and close the slave by hand then have the someone else push on the clutch to get the fluid flowing through the whole system.

I am having the similar problem. I changed everything almost twice. Other then the slave. Master I bought leaked. Now if I pump the clutch before I shift its nice and firm but if I dont it kind of grinds. I am getting a Stainless Steel clutch line. I heard that the rubber ones start to get soft over time. So it starts to expands. I am going to try to see if this fixs it this weekend.
